A timely thread for me to make a decision

Hi all, thanks to all for the input. I couldn't stand it and went straight to the camera shop last weekend. It was walking to the lion's den with the UWAs (10-24mm, 12-24, 11-16 f2.8 tokina) in my head. I know i am going to do my wallet wrong.

Asked for the 10-24mm straightaway cos i was greedy about the additional 1mm. tried it and liked it a lot. i was so mesmerized that subconsciously i said "ok" to the boss and 10 mins later I went home with the 10-24mm at $1350 with a free cheapo filter.

DAMN. on my way home i realised i forgot to bargain for a better price.. forgot to even try the 12-24mm and the tokina 11-16mm f2.8.

haha. I would say it is an super impulse buy, but i am enjoying every part of it now. Right now learning how to use it properly, especially the metering and composition part.

I am treating the distortion at the 10mm as an artistic effect and make use of it correctly to make it beautiful. I literally neglected my 18-200mm at home and bring only the 10-24mm + 50mm f1.8 in my bag for now.

no decent pics to show now, but will post later when i am better at it.
thanks
=)

hope107fm - that was some nice shots! i like the fullerton one. is it HDR?

don't worry, you got yourself a good deal!

the 10-24 is a great lens, hope to see your photos soon?

to my personal opinion...i have both Nikkor 10-24mm and Tokina 11-16mm, Color and picture quality wise, I still prefers Tokina, But for carryaround UWA, I would bring the 10-24mm simply due to it's zooming range but the color aren't really as vibrant. Like another member's comment much earlier,I also dont have problem with flaring on my Nikkor. just my two cents...

the 10-24 is good in outdoors,

but if you're doing indoor architectural photog, the 11-16 would be better for you.

but you have the admit, the 10-24 is very tempting...

No HDR involved; just the usual Photoshop Elements' Levels, Shadows/Highlights and Blend Modes, etc. Yeah, the 12-24 stays on my camera body most of the time now.

for outdoor and indoor shots, which would b a better choice?

i am also lookin at both the nikon n tokina...

btw, on kenrockwell website, he has a post explainin abt UWA len and how to use it(distortion) efficiently.good to read

yes, ken rockwell explains rather simply.

the 11-16 will do well indoor because it's a rather fast lens (f/2.8)

the 10-24 would do much better outdoors.

i personally haven't tried the 11-16, but i can vouch for the 10-24 outdoors,

however not so much indoors ...

Waiting for the sample pics from the TS..

Any pics to showcase ?

Hi all,
These are what i took over the weekend.
Didn't photoshop, only compressed them from RAW.

fort canning. 10mm. went close to the gate when taking the photo, trying to make the entrance big.

back view of national museum, 10mm. just a pure wide shot, not aiming for distortion. just wanted to see how wide i can go.

at the fort canning part. the leaves almost hit my lens. I am trying to make the bud stand out.

went real close to the red bear too. this is at 24mm. not much distortion. The bears are actually quite small.

orchard ion at evening time. handheld.10mm f3.5 focused on the middle of the building and the people were out of focus. The building is already distorted, but somehow it makes the building huge and i like this effect.

will post more in future

Vickee, Thanks for sharing your photos. The 10-24mm lens is good too. Like the Ion photo most, but I notice some flare at top right edge of the building

Me too... like the Ion foto.
