AF-S 24-85mm f3.5-4.5G VR to be Release soon.

Optic wise is no issue, sharpness is there, but i use it yesterday for 1 wedding and i find the zoom ring not as smooth as 24-120 .. not comfortable to use for whole day shooting ..

Think will keep 24_120 instead .. anyways if i cant sell it ,i just collect it for holiday use.

Your 24-120 is F/4 or variable aperture?

Well, the REAL Rockwell has posted...

Nikon 24-85mm VR Review

I'm sure he'll make some comparisons in time too but of course, it doesn't stop him from making this point before doing any tests (taken from his site)
"If you don't need VR; here's the other Rockwell secret: Nikon's original 24-85 AF-S G is also just as sharp as this new VR version when compared on my D800E, and sells used for half the price, or less than one-quarter the price of the 24-120 VR — and offers the same sharpness, less size and weight, the same build quality, the same focus ring and instant manual-focus override and the same full compatibility with even Nikon's cheapest digitals."

Just got it..

Distortion performance top

The Nikon 24-85 VR's distortion is heinous. It has loads of distortion, just like its predecessor. At 24mm it has a load of barrel distortion, and at 35mm and longer, it has loads of pincushion distortion you will see without looking very hard..

The distortion will be strong than 16-35mm VR?

Oops the lens is good, but when I was called to some JB Angsana shop, they worried to keep stock, if you wanna buy an put on deposit for pre-order for you :)

That's dunno what happening on the kit lens as 18-55 VR performance... ~.~

So yesterday just grab my extra AIPO 45liter to instead of 24-85 VR :)

Cause I found the 24mm wide In FX sensor is really good enough.

If you want sharp contrasty and rich colors, why don't you get a 24-70? buy such an expensive camera only to match it to consumer lenses. What's the point?

Yes I have my 24-70mm f2.8G just about my concern due to traveling and carry the lightweight lens and still can be fit in more extra lenses into my back bag.

I travel with my 24-70. But if I am forced not to bring the 24-70, i will buy a tamron 28-75 instead.

He he, cause I need the VR to help up on the low light condition and also the rich color of the new design grade.

Personally I never needed VR on the 24-70 range. I guess it comes down to skill and technique. I think the only time VR is useful in this range, is for doing video.

That's why have to moving forward an got chance will go the 24-85 VR and taken the landscape as F4 and above for the travel or short trip.
This lens also gave me the feeling like my DX 18-70mm :)
