AF-S 24-70 stiff zoom ring

Tts y my hood is on all the time never dismounted and reversed. Tts y my hood condition is at 7 the most. :bsmilie:

Hood only cost $45 for the original Nikon one bro. ;)

would like to clarify something..apart from Nikon 24 70.. So its better we keep our lenses with hood attached and not reversed in the camera bag?

It it is built like the Nikon 24-70 or Canon 24-70 mkI, then yes.

Jus my 2cent, as some of the retractable zoom lens have their hood mount on the tip of the lens, therefore in terms of using the hood to support the weight of the cam cant be apply on these lenses.
For me, if the lens with the hood on can fit into my bag i jus live it on, cos there was once the lens cap drop out inside my bag while i was carry it and the filter got scratched.

Its not about the $45 it about have to go all the way to NSC to buy it cos this stuff shop don usually carry.
Lazy me. lol

Hood meant to be scratched la.. battle scars mah. LOL

So for those lenses that the hood dont cover and shield like the 2 lens you mentioned above. It dosent matter that much already?

Yea..i guess most of the zoom lenses have their hood on the tip..and dosent cover the barrel..

Yup.that is if the bag is big or deep enough..:bsmilie:

That's why, new canon 24-70 Mk II and Tamron 24-70... the hood is mounted on the tip of the inner lens tube... REVERSE, also no use... DEPLOYED, also no use... Best option is to remove the lens entirely from the camera body and face up...

This should apply to all lenses with inner extruding barrel (provided the hood is not mounted on the inner barrel), to leave the hood on at all times...

Lens hood is for preventing glare and lens flare - period.

If you do ebay, you can get lower than 45 and you don't need to travel to NSC... ;) Of course, if you can trust them to send it properly and original... lol

NSC do not repair stiff zoom ring.. they replaces a brand new lens.. :)

How about if the focus ring is stiff?

From 24-50 is OK, but from 50-70 or 70-50 it will have some vibration and noise. The lens is still useable now but would like to repair it. Compare mine with my friends 24-70, my zoom ring is definitely stiffer. I normally transportation the lens with the Hood reverse.

That is not the focus ring, but the zoom ring still. Same problem. And probably caused by the same issue (hood reversed during transportation).

OFFICIALLY, NSC does not replace with a brand new lens...

OFFICIALLY... OFFICIALLY, OFFICIALLY, "OFFICIALLY" "OFFICIALLY"... get it? lets just leave it like that, shall we? :)

I'm implying, just just leave it as what DD123 said.
