Hi Guy,

Kindly advise which wide angle lens has better usage. My needs to landscape, during film age I like 24mm prime lens.

Minolta
AF 11 - 18mm DT SGD$900 (16.5~27mm)

Tamron
SP AF11-18mm F/4.5-5.6 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) NEW - SGD$850++ (16.5~27mm)

Sigma
10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM (15~30mm)

I have used the Sigma 10-20mm f/4.0-5.6 for my recent China/Vietnam trip, very wide and good for scenic shots. But have soft (at extreme) corner (I suspect all ultra wide angle lenses are like that though), and not bright enough to take low light/evening and night shots.
Not very good at taking people portrait also because of the distortion (except centre, or need to be creative) .

I heard that the Minolta and Tamaron AF 11 - 18mm are the same. It's a Tamaron rebrand as Minolta.

i think it's more worth it to get a Full frame wide angle lens...maybe sigma 12-24?

I just order Sigma 12-24... waiting it to arrive... will do some testing...

So far 11-18 is pretty good apart from light softness on the edge... (mine only on left hand side) so I suspect it is a QC problem. The rest is pin sharp when shoot at f8.

Was thinking for buying Sigma 10-20, but give up the idea because still prefer full frame lens as I still shot film.

anything from 10-12, it is going to be too wide for any purpose other than landscape and interior shots. I don't think it is versatible for everyday use.

I will much prefer the Sigma 15-30... it gives you 22.5 to 45 with digital.. hence it is more practical. This lens is really sharp...

Regards,

Hart

Sigma 10-20.... Sounds like quite an ok lens for me.

How much does it cost?

Sigma 10-20mm. S$880 w/GST from AP.
