Just got my first DSLR (D80) yesterday...been playing around for the whole day...

Next wk going to KL, so i was wondering whether should i get a external flash so that i can get better pics...esp outdoor night ones or is the built in one sufficient?

Pardon me for asking a noob qn...just starting out here

it depends on your lighting situation and experience

but mostly, flash photography would be better if you had an external flash

Also depends on the type of photography you intend to do.....

Tripod may come in handy if you want some pictures of the Petronas towers.

Flash have limited range. External flash have longer range than build-in flash because the GN of external flash usually higher than build-in flash.

Agreed. Really depends on the situation, since at the end of the day both flashes fire head-on (unless you're moving it off-shoe)

But for your case the built-in one will do for now...I believe you're taking holiday shots so just have fun!

if wanna take people with background of such at night, flash would be gd! fill in pop up can alrdy laa.. actually, really depends on what u want. if u wish to take night sceneric shots, dump the idea of the flash and bring along a tripod. u wont even need the flash.

if u think everything is rush and all (and u really wan a flash and into serious photography), hurry read up as much as u can, buy a sb600 (dunno sufficient for you anot?) and try try try try but still you need practices. try shoot read, multi-task! otherwise, u have ur whole life to pick up this excellent new hobby of yours.
