Advice to move from canon 5d3 to Sony A7 mk2

Will Canon Imaging division end up like Nokia and Ericsson eventually?

After seeing the AF tracking capability of the A7R MII on DPReview, I am almost all ready to dump my stupid Canon cameras. Not kidding...

It's shocking that Canon cameras can be so ridiculously bad when compared to Nikon and Sony in both sensor capability and AF tracking.

Canon won't end up like Nokia because their lens division still rocks. :)

Addendum: I just took out my EOS M3. Activated AF Servo. Pointed camera at a prominent object and repeated the same test that DPReview did. The AF box just latched onto the subject and never lost it. Hmmm... maybe it's just MILC vs DSLR, not so much a Canon failure thing.

Changing of AF point is pretty easy on the A7 series, if u really know your camera well.

Because of the customisability of almost all the buttons on the A7, changing focus point during shooting modd can be as easy as e.g. Tap centre back button, toggle d-pad to desired focus point, tap centre back button again.

You can also change the size of the focus point very easily. People who tell you that settings are difficult to change on the fly, don't know their cameras well.

Thanks for the tip. I am ready to dump my Canon cameras now. Will keep most of the lenses to use with metabones adapter.

Thanks for the advice. Did a comparison and realized that most Sony lenses compared to their Canon equivalents are lighter and smaller.
Impressed. Cos Sony lenses are covered with metal bodies.

Need to look carefully before you leap.

Sony CZ 24-70 f/4: very lightweight at 426g, but also consider the seriously atrocious lens performance (e.g. in Photozone)
Sony CZ 50 f/1.4: 518g vs Canon 290g

I have also halfway moved to Sony A7ii. While taking Long exposures the camera takes forever processing. When taking Long Exposures Night Panoramas this is unacceptable due to the changing light condition, My old Canon 5dii was very quick. I know this may be due to Long Exposure NR but the Canon also had NR on. When trying to switch off the camera at night the front dial accidentally turns and messes up the settings. Hopefully I will get used to the buttons which are too cramped for me as for now but determined to stay with it.

All long exposure NR works the same. It is not the same as other kinds of in-camera noise reduction e.g. High iso NR. If u do pano, don't turn on LE NR.

The SEL2470Z is not atrocious, although one can argue that other standard zooms are of better value (SEL2870 and SEL24240). My copy of the SEL2470Z is very good and is my workhorse/holiday lens. It's about the user experience. A smaller and lighter lens gives you better results because you bring it out and shoot more.

This article gives a good insight why one shouldn't really be influenced by the (negligible) weight savings of mirrorless. In fact it mentioned the A7m2 had to be made bigger (for the handgrip and hence heavier.

@silvermoon1407. I tried with NR off and the write times still seem very long as compared with Canon. Still hanging on to my 5Dmkii and 70-200 2.8 II for Singapore. Plan to use the Sony for everything else especially when travelling

Yeah... This is about the correct time to move forward, sell all your Canon gears, last time i waited for their fine lenses series, and then finally came out Carl Zeiss Batis. DSLR will RIP... for sure.

how much is 1 Metabones adapter AF required with canon lenes, how is the weather sealing compare to 5d3? When oversea once and caught in a rain, everyone kept their camera while i still using it =D
