Advice on Leica lens: 28mm Summicron or 35mm Summilux FLE

Hi bros,

Any thoughts between the two lenses regarding rendering; sharpness; distortion; vignetting; etc?

They are both REALLY pricey glasses, which is why I wanted to get your impressions first. I just got a 75mm Summarit F2.5 (thanks to the feedback of members here) so looking to partner it with a wide-angle lens. Since I already have a 35mm M-Hexanon, I'm leaning more towards the 28mm Summicron but I'm open to the idea of having 2 35mm lenses.

Thanks! :)

haha 35 fle and 28 summicron price is like almost near to 1 times more (like 7k vs 4k range..). imo i think you should sell off your hexanon and get the 35 fle thats if you can find one also (recently few sets in BnS have been bought off very quickly, that should tell you the approximate price of the lens) You should check the review/sample on stevehuffphotos.com for the FLE, from what i see it is a great lens but availability wise is .. :(

Hi larry,

I thought the Summicron 28mm price is 6k for original? Even second hand one I saw was over 5k. But it's definitely easier to get than the 35mm Summilux FLE.

Saw a 28mm summicron at P&G in peninsular, wrote "new" selling 4.9k. Not sure what's the retail price in authorized dealer shops, u might wanna check it out :)

nope.. if u see recent sales being quoted.. 4.6-4.8k... probably sold lower than that.. FLE is like close to 3k more than the 28summicron hah... i believe either lens is a good lens though..

If you are shooting F8 mostly or hyperfocusing, for wide angle lenses buying a F2.8 is fast enough

Your soul searching maybe should begin with the question not about specific lens, but of focal length: 35mm or 28mm. Both FL tell very different stories, and method of shooting is very different. I think you should choose specific lens after you have decided 35mm or 28mm.
