Advice on 75mm focal length

Hi bros,

I'm thinking of selling my 50mm lens for a 75mm. So my lens combo for travelling will be 35mm & 75mm. Any bros here are regular users of 75mm M mount lenses? Any advantages or drawbacks of using this focal length for day to day as well as night time shooting? And which 75mm lens is recommended for full-frame -- I'm using an M9.

Thanks! :D

i found this video quite good... if u can tahan the weird declarations from Kai... :bsmilie:

Sorry to hijack this thread. Which would be a preferred focal length for portraits, 75mm or 90mm?

I used a 75mm 2.5 in the past on an M8. Not easy to focus without magnifier. There will be hit and miss.

Thanks for the advice bro. I'm still thinking what other application I can use the 75mm focal length for. The only thing that comes to mind is concert/stage performance shots.

It is "possible" to do concert/stage performance shots with a 50. But as many have said, focusing with anything longer than 50 on most rangefinders is a pain. Even with a 50/1.4 wide open has proven to be a challenge to shoot, never mind the short base length of my Bessa.

I'd say, buy a GF1 and 45mm 1.8 like I did :) Because I honestly felt that moving targets are too difficult on the RF with telephotos.

Or a M8 than your 50mm would almost be a 70mm focal length.

Thanks bro. You're probably right. I guess there is no decent tele option for full-frame at the moment? Unless you opt for a Canon/Nikon DSLR?

I forgot about the ricoh GXR haha. You can use 50mm on it. The 1.5x crop factor will make it a 75mm. Problem solved :)

you can check out the old write-up on the 75mm lenses...

Leica Summilux-M 75mm f/1.4, Voigtländer 75mm f1.8 Heliar-Classic, Leica Apo-Summicron-M 75mm F2 Asph

i have also used the 75mm M on a m43 body, effectively making it a 150mm tele.

FBA bro, I'm using a Voigtlander 75 f/1.8 on my M9, and am loving it. It is sharp and works reasonably well in low light. I use it mainly for portrait shots, but I believe it can be used in many other situations as well. I can email you a few test shots if you are interested. Do PM me your email address.

My other lens is a 35mm. I'm happy with the 35 / 75 combi for travel.

Btw you may want to check out Tamron's website which has a nice focal length comparison tool. Do a google on "Tamron focal length comparison" and you should find it.

Cheers
