Advice of taking pics on island trips and highlands(Genting)

hi guys,wondering if anyone wud be kind to advice me on wat to bring along as an xtra precaution or tips on caring of my DSLR wen taking pics on these 2 places?..fyi my DSLR is takin her 1st trip to genting and wud like to noe if the low temperature der mite affect certain caring procedures...nxt mth wise i'll be headin dwn to pulau dayang off mersing..heard wen near coastal areas,have to be careful on the humidity coming frm the sea water or sumthin(correct me if im wrong)..well jz hopin to get sum valuable advices frm the more experienced guys out der in taking xtra care of my baby..

usually if it's just few days i won't take much precautions, but you can always pack some silica gel inside your camera bag to reduce the moisture. the temperature at genting isn't that cold either, even compacts can survive it... so not to worry ya ;)

coastal areas especially beaches, watch out when you change lens... don't let sand particles get into your camera or lens, else it'll be hard to handle.

most importantly, enjoy your trip and don't drop your camera (on ground or into the sea), it hurts. :bsmilie:
 

I don't think there is much to worry about at Genting Highlands. The temperature is not that cold. Just bring your camera and enjoy yourself. Try to get up early and you may be lucky to catch a great sunrise. If you intend to enjoy the theme park, you may find a DSLR getting in your way. Same goes for the island trip. You may find a compact camera more useful as you are less encumbered and can really enjoy all the activities.
 

gee thanks guys..was very bz wif werk n also CS seems to be dwn fer maintenance couple of days last wk...will take note of ur advices..;)

genting is not cold. even london is not cold and it's way lower than genting. :)

one thing you need to note is the variance in temperatures when you go from indoors to outdoors - i experienced this on cruise, once in genting in the wee hours of the morning where indoors was amazingly distinctively colder than outdoors, when i took my dslr out the lens fogged up and i couldn't take pictures until the sun had risen somewhat, not my favourite type of golden hour shot. to avoid this, make the introduction of the camera to a new environment more gradual, you can hold the camera closer to the body without taking out lenscaps.. if the fogging is on the front element still ok, if on rear element damn mar fun.

other than that, nothing else to take note of.. i have brought my lens so close to the seawater and punggol, zero trouble, just DON'T GET SPLASHED and all will be good. after every salt water related encounter, wipe down your camera with a damp (not wet) cloth. the body, not the lens hor. and clean it lor. if you ahve a uv filter on, why worry? :dunno:
 

actuali i was more worried abt the fogging thing fer genting...as fer the pulau dayang trip,i mite jz bring my compact instd of the DSLR...sure no tyme to take pics as the I mite be cramped wif activities...;)

don't worry too much about it, as long as you don't introduce your cam into a new environment so quickly, no issue.

just bring a microfibre cloth along just in case you are too hasty. usually, only the front lens element will fog up.

btw, if you are not the gambling type,

try to get up in the morning, and bring your tripod.. the views on top are beautiful, from many of the winding roads that lead up. beautiful spots for sunrise abound, even if you don't get any shots i'm sure you will feel something.

if you get bored in the afternoon, can also take a walk. sometimes can get very interesting results. :) as stupid as it sounds, there are actually quite some pictures to be taken.. :)
