Advice needed. I want to change from Vista to XP.

Need some advise. Just brought a laptop running on Vista Home Premium.
Reason for buying it so kids can play some online game,eg, maplesea,rakion and audition.
(and i can try what is vista all about, since some review said it similar to Tiger OS - I'm a Mac user )
Now I discovered many XP online game cannot be played with Vista and it defeated my purpose of having this laptop. I am considering to change the OS to XP. Need Advice.

Can I partition it, so i can have XP and Vista.
Where can I seek help to install the XP.

You can get any compatiable XP CD and install it but put in the Vista key.

saw some selling XP original and unregistered copies on the net.
So,can I get that and install it?
Will the Vista OS still in the laptop or will it be replace by the XP?

Not sure about unregistered copy but you can borrow any legit copy and use the key.
I am expecting the OS to be replaced.

The most ideal case is to have a dual boot for XP and Vista.
So far, Vista is good, except I am disappointed that it can't play some popular online game (kids are also very disappointed) and a little problem in drivers issue.
Any Idea dual boots is possible?

dual boot is possible, partition then installed the OS. You may want to have a third partition - just to save all your data in it....just in case pc/laptop went kaput data can be recovered quite easily.

will bring it to any computer repair shop to have them to help me to partition and install the two OS.Hopefully this will solve my headache. and kids will not have to Q up and share the XP desktop at home to play games.

I've already 'de-vista'ed a Dell XPS laptop - but I did have a XP Pro corporate CD and key to work with. Just booted of the XP cd and did a clean install. (Which was perfectly legal as the owner of the laptop and the XP pro corporate license are one and the same

Then downloaded all the XP drivers from Dell's web site to get all the gadgets in the laptop to work properly.

However another collegue got stuck - staff member bought a shiny new Sony laptop and when they tried to 'de-vista' that one, they discovered that Sony have done something to the the machine to stop XP from working properly - there are no XP drivers for this new laptop and the drivers for the previous model don't work, Vista is the only thing that will run on it...

Hope can DE-VISTA it too.
At least I now have more confident that I will be able to install XP into it.
Plan to purchase an original XP copy.
There are seller selling the original copy at about 100 to 150, claim it is new and not registered yet. Think I can buy from them?

If it is a Dell there should be no problem.
The option to De-Vista a Dell is actually supported by Dell themself.
You don't have to buy a original copy just get any copy and the drivers from Dell will do.

:bigeyes: WOW...(not the vista wow, hehe).. you mean i can obtain a copy of xp from Dell?
if it is true, it will save me some money, and time too
Will call Dell first thing in the morning in Monday, hopefully can have my misery dissolve, as well as my kids' misery.

Seems that Vista is not that WOW anyway, maybe it will be very good in about 6mths time.

So, when is Leopard OS coming...haha:bsmilie:
