Advice: Abandoning Nikon?

I am new to this hobby and wanted a DSLR (I was using a Canon S2 IS). So I went to a store and made my enquiries. I handled both D80 and EOS400D and in the end I chose the more expensive D80 for I found it much more user friendly and easier to handle. I so desperately wanted a Canon, but the "feel" of a Nikon made the difference to me. In your case, since you have Nikkor lenses, you will save a bundle!

different camera for different target group. the company that sticks to this idea wins.
small and light for people with small hands or those who like travelling light.
medium size for the general population.
bulky and heavy for people like me. ha ha ha.

I'd get the D200 then 
It takes CF cards and blows away the Canon competition (Easily beats 30D and the build quality but not IQ is better than 5D)
As for 400D vs D80, the D80 is solid, and it's more expensive for a reason, it's a better camera.
The IQ difference between D80 and 400D is negligible now it's no longer a factor, high ISO performance is pretty much the same for both cameras, the difference is in camera processing.
If you look at the RAW captures in detail they are the same, the same detail is captured but the Canon has better in camera processing, thus with Neat Image or Noise Ninja and the Nikon you can get superior results as the Nikons tend to expose for shadows which don't cause any problems with clipping highlights.
Of course the Nikon speedlight system is much better than Canon too
If you are on a budget you can look at A-100 Sony aswell, but I wouldn't recommend it.
For entry level you can seriously consider getting a D70s, it can produce superb pictures, it was my previous camera before I got this D200.
Canon is only worth buying if you are getting 1D and a full set of USM IS L lenses, other than thier lower and mid range cams are like plastic toys.
Go for Nikon you won't regret it.

I couldn't agree with you more bro. I'm more or less neutral to both as I have a Canon 350D and my dad has an old Nikon FM unit. IMHO to really appreciate the lower end Canon DSLRs, you'll need a battery grip to give the camera "bulk" and "feel" :sweatsm:. But it does the job just as well without. Its the person behind the camera that counts more than the hardware :think:.

:sweatsm: yeah, perhaps taken out of context. Told by one of the full time photogs still using one of the remaining 6 Nikon dSLRs in ST.
ST, not SPH, not newpaper, not ZB. That's what I'm told, yes. that ST is shifting to Canon. Upon inquiry why some of the newer photogs got a canon body while he was using a Nikon body.

Yeah, now I know the casual tone of how you treat 'ST' per se. Sure thing to take your information, or erh misinformation with a pinch of salt. The clarification sure does wonders.
