Hi guys/gals... I'm having my AD on 8 Nov 2008 (is it to soon to ask?) and I need photography & videography service for the whole day (Church & Banquet dinner).

Would $1000 be enough? ;)

Photography already $1000 plus minus. Videography, might have express which will incur further charges.

There are some budget photographers lah. I have seen $500 ones. But then, package and experience also diff. Videography much more ex.

a simple advice for you.

The cheap one may not be good. But the good ones are definately not cheap.
Go by that feeling sure who go wrong one

I am also not sure about that statement anymore, because it seems like the good ones are also now starting to reduce price and now the market is in a mess? :dunno:

Eg. Benjamin (catchlight) prices also quite low and competitive nowadays?

yes , I do agree for certain things .but those who knows what their value are will NOT lower their prices instead. They think of ways to enhances it. Makes them and their packages more attractive. there are more to this "then meets the eye" haha. email me at lutherseow@gmail.com .we can discuss this more on email.

I can oni commends on video side as I do oni video..
video itself aredy cos u $800++ to $1k++ depending ur requirement.. again just like photo, there are people doing it much more cheaper but quality usually is = to u pay wat u get lor. besides shoot, u needs lots of time to package it, from editing, adding effects, music, burn to DVD, authoring, and long rendering time... not forgetting the machine cost..
ur wedding is still abt a year from now.. i suggest u work on a budget of abt 1k for video alone.:)

my suggestion is to view the portfolios of photographers and email those that you like requesting for charges.

then from there see how it could fit into your budget, or if you have to raise (or lower!) it. :)

1 year later, even cheap ones will raise prices cos they have 1 more year of experience (trust me, this is based on my own experience on hiring AD PG/VG.

See their works, make sure it is what you like. And it is too early to commit. Because 1 year later, maybe new styles or new 'pattern' already. Maybe instead of PG/VG, got many other extra stuff. I would advise you start seeking PG/VG around 8-10 months before wedding. Unless you wedding date is a 'hot' date, then you better book now, but be prepared to top up more if you decide you want anymore things to add on at the last minute.

Hi, so is it too early to find 1 now?

everyyear 8 or 9 November if it is falls on weekend, it will be a popular date for weddings.

some photographers and videographer are not keen to accept booking very far away, cos their intend to raise their price in near future. so it maybe 20~30% difference if he shoot your wedding compare to those booking him only 2 or 3 months in advance.

you should worry about those offer cheap and their price does not change over the years, this shows that their works and style does not evolve or improve much.

if you don't really keen on spending too much on photo and video, than just take whatever you want, bear in mind that the quality of works do come with a price tag.

do note you spend lot of money, efforts and time to prepare your wedding, and these two are the best things to record everything happens during your wedding, so it does make sense to allocate a decent budget on photography and videography.

Hope this help.

OT: I focus more on studio portraits since mid 2006 and didn't revise my rate and campaign actively for wedding photography in 2007.
many wedding photographers already adjust their rate upward since late 2006, so seem like my rate is still very low according to what can I deliver. but still, I didn't do much weddings this year compare to a few years back.
