A900 + some older lenses

I might go to the 16-35 one day but not now, economy is bad haha. I usually set the picture at 300dpi and view it at print size, it's about 20"X13".

OK will upload the full resolution picture tonight.

It's still a bit soft at the corners, I downloaded the full res at your flickr website... that's what I dislike about this lens... but I guess it cannot be helped... even on my 7D, it's a bit soft...

Feeling the excitement... I think I'll get it next week... kekeke... school hols on.... got time I hope to do some shopping around... must find out when CBD ERP is off... otherwise very expensive to travel around all the different shops in town - CP, AP, TK Foto and MS Colour...

Good to hear that the 17-35 and the 24-135 can hold their own... maybe I won't have to splash out another $2000 to buy the CZ24-70...

My point exactly. I have the Minolta 28-70/G and this lens is splendid enough to not have it replaced for the CZ. In the lower range however, while going FF the 17-35 non G is apparently a very good choice without going for CZ as well.

Looking forward to the cropped versions!

Thanks, I noticed some slight purple color fringe but even on the full size you have to almost search for it. Thanks!

I saw that, it's all around the merlion body and the building bebind. But that doesn't affect me :).

Alternatively, I noticed some interesting shots from the Minolta 20/2.8. Looking at the prices this lens goes for the Sony version exists as well making it an interesting buy.

Hmmm .. buy 900, 20/2.8 (+ some flash), have 50/1.4 28-70/2.8, 70-200/2.8 and TC2.

Sent e-quotes out to all the usual suspects...

Only Alan Photo has responded saying that they don't carry SONY products...

I guess Parisilk, Cathay, MS Colour, T.K. Foto are all tied up with the IT show...

Don't bother with AP. Never have any good experience with them.

Well I have purchased some stuff from them before... yeah, it's a typical SLS shop... not very friendly, neither are you very sure they're honest or not...

So far still no reply... I guess I'll wait till Mon to see if they reply... bad week to ask for e-quotes after the IT Show mess...

Sigma 24-135mm F2.8-4.5 ................ you won't be sorry ................ ;)

I've used both the

17-35 D
28-70G

on various a900s before (for jobs/shoots/test shots) - the results are great... and I guess I'd still be using them when I get my a900. :P

I've finally bitten the bullet... went to MS Colour to buy the A900... wah!!:sweat::sweat: Feeling very light now...

I purchased the following...

1) A900
2) VG-C90AM
3) HVL-F58AM
4) 3 x NP-FM500H
5) 2 x LCD protector

Didn't buy the twin bttery charger cos they had no stock... >$5000...:sweatsm::sweatsm:

I took some shots with the 17-35 D at the 17mm f/8 end and find that when I zoom in 19x on the LCD the sharpness is not there at all... quite disappointed... it was a quick test at the shop... when I use the 70-300 at the 70mm f/8 end, I find that the image is much sharper... not sure if it's the lens or cos it's wide angle lens problem... or hyperfocal distance issue... I used spot focus using the central AF sensor on some lettering (HDB block number signage)... need to explore more... same issue with my 7D...

Hmm, something tells me you overlooked something. Try and get the balance to get the best out of it. Do some research here and there how to maximize the result.

I haven't looked at the files on my monitor yet... just at 19x magnification on the LCD of the A900... that might affect the perception of sharpness...

Congrats on the purchase of your new toy.

Hmm... haiz... need to get use to the A900's interface... the manual is so thick, I wonder what it contains...

Also realise that SONY spends a lot of money building NBC-proof cardboard boxes for the camera and the accessories... really unnecessary? And also the printing of a the manuals in a million languages... the instruction manuals for the A900 in different languages comes up to about 4 inch thick... sheer waste of resources...

Still charging my 4 batteries... haiz... if only the twin charger was available... haven't anything to shoot really... except perhaps for this Sat's 90th anniversary dinner for my school... the mighty 24.6MP sensor will be relegated to taking snapshots... hahaha... see how it performs using flash for flesh tones in ultrawide angle settings... this is one really tricky kind of shot under low light (likely fluorescent tubes) and a test for AWB too...

Congrats on the purchase of your new toy.

Still feeling the pain lar... but wanted true ultrawide angle (17mm) for my trip in June to the Canadian Rockies and Alaska... a bit disappointing the performance of the 17-35D in my quick and dirty test... will have to test again... will post 100% crops of the test shots in the shop and then more when I get about to start shooting...

Realise I need to buy a softer more comfy neckstrap instead of the lousy cloth one from SONY... plus I need another bag...

Oh and the wondrous part about pro bodies (or something called the flagship)?!?! - The LCD protector is not provided in the box!!! You've got to buy and I paid S$24 for one... I bought a spare... $24 for a piece of plastic?!! Wow! Tell me I got fleeced!

dunno whether the 19x view is an 'over' inspection?
somehow for quite a few shots on tripod, the 19x inspection shows some OOF.. anyone has experience of otherwise?
