Can you post your A700 shots? I tried the setting on my A700 but the pics didn't turned out as good as what was described.

Bro, this one a test shot from A700, the details (for me at least) is still good enough.

Resized only

Exif intact

Proprietary is ok, just that can it be opened/processed in Photoshop / Adobe Camera Raw?

From what I learnt, Sony uses proprietary raw file format.

From what I heard, there is some kind of plugin or addon you need to install. I am not so sure what to install though, since I use Linux and the software I am using is mainly ufraw and gimp. However, most of my friends using Photoshop and they don't any complain about the processing the raw files.

Yes, and Lightroom, and Silkypix, and DXO, and Phase one...

I'm not sure if you can talk about details in this shot... the resolution isn't really that great... it was a low light high ISO shot with panning to boot... but the noise performance is really very good!

WOW....with that type of smooth noise and quality at 6400, i wun be complaining liao! i really need to start checking out my cam....did u capture in raw?

This really isn't a low light high ISO shot... it's just high ISO... generally the A900 performs better even at high ISO as along as the light is ok... it's the low light situations like wedding dinners or outdoor/indoor performances, night portraits, night groups shots that really bring out all the noise gremlins... even the shot I posted is not really considered low light situations... the shutter was still 1/100s. The fruit shot has a shutter of 1/800. For these, there's no necessity to shoot at ISO6400.

I would consider the last shot by cthep2 as low light. Even at ISO6400, the shutter speed is still only 1/15s.

Yes, we're always more interested in photos with dark areas and shot at ISO 1600 or higher. I'm not that critical with the amount of noise at high ISO, but rather how much are colored/chroma noise, which makes the photo very unpleasant.

hm..didnt know acr 5.5 reads a850 raw now.. =D wonder where is my iphoto turn >.<

I agree... luminance noise is fine (white specks) but chroma noise (red/blue/green specks) is NO NO! Hopefully I'll get good results from the agorabasta settings this Sat... but I'll need to get the exposure right first... this is very tough though...

What's agorabasta setting? I'm curious.

Hi bros, some comparisons to the agorabasta settings. Exif: 1/160, f2.8, ISO6400 for all shots.

1. No agorabasta settings applied. Using just Standard mode with no high iso NR.

2. Using agorabasta settings.

3. Using agorabasta settings but with high iso NR turned off. Used Dfine 2.0 to NR (default mode).

Did you use Auto WB? The 3rd shot's WB is off from the 1st 2.

The link was posted in this thread in post #125. I listed the settings in my post with the photos above. It just changes the settings under Creative Style by doing a -1 on Zone Matching and compensating brightness and sharpness.

I see! Thanks!
I've had Zone -1 on all the time but didn't adjust further on the other parameters (saw this setting posted here in CS). And about brightness -2, I don't quite like the exposure result and that seems to darken and hide the noise rather than to reduce or eliminate them instead. Also, dynamic range was reduced significantly.

Yes the DR is reduced but it's ok if you're shooting low light right? The DR isn't that wide cos you want selective exposure anyway... don't think it will hurt... must try lar... my mode dial will drop off after Sat...

I'm going to switch from A mode to memory 1 for each set of shots mah... back, forth, back, forth... sure come off one... especially the performances are high speed type... kan jiong then oooppsy...
