A850: More details...

The most interesting thing is that the fine details are much better preserved. If you take a look at the dark crop, the fourth book spine from the left should read "The Oxford Companion" at the top of the spine. For the crop with no change in the zone matching setting, the words are hardly visible. For the crop with the change in zone matchin setting, it is much more visible! The difference is quite amazing I feel...

I would expect that the real world print would show almost no noise... I have yet to test. Need to wait one more week for 19 Sep. I'll use this setting and take some real world pictures in X.Fine JPEG and see how well it holds up... I might also grab a colleague's 1D MarkII to do a comparison... hehehe...

Hope this was helpful to all... btw I forgot to mention, taken on an A900 + Tamron 24-135mm SP. Shot at 35mm.

thanks! it was really informative. u really check things out.

This agorabasta setting rockz..using it in my A700 for lowlight shots :)

Here's a test shot of A850 using the setting (WB & Resize only)

I think if printed on 4R/5R maybe the noise is negligible

For me it's already acceptable as the details are great enough..
..I'm not a pixel peeper but like to capture moments more importantly:)

WOW....with that type of smooth noise and quality at 6400, i wun be complaining liao! i really need to start checking out my cam....did u capture in raw?

Actually out of cam jpgs with NR at 'low' still looks pretty good after downsizing to a 12MP shot.

Below is a quick snap downsized in PS by 50% @ ISO1600

Tried it at Sony Wisma while shopping yesterday :D felt almost like A900 (I have neither)

Are the demo sets out at the sony stores already? Want to test drive it before deciding whether or not to burn a hole in my pocket.

Please advise which sony store if you know.

Thank you.

You can try at Comex, MS Color or Cathay Photo also.

For such an impossibly dark shot, yes the chroma noise is pretty good... this I assume is not taken with the recommended settings?

Just a quick snap w/o using the recommended setting just downsizing the jpg file. But I've tried the settings suggested earlier & it's now saved into memory slot 1 :)

well... i tried using the settings and the noise seems well-controlled at ISO 6400 too. :) now it is comparable in noise levels to my A700 with the v4. :)

Thanks guys!

QUOTE=godzilla60;5429076]i compared some shots taken with A850 and A700 at similar ISO levels (1000, 1250 and 1600) and the noise levels of the RAW files of A850 seem to be higher than that of the A700.

is it just me or?:dunno:[/QUOTE]

,,,,,,,the noise is higher as in colorful grains?............. Yes, they are there

Yes, the noise is still there, but it's now in finer form and not as ugly as the original big color patch noise look. Looks more like the High ISO Film grain.

You can't get rid of noise... especially for the A900 at ISO6400 cos this is an extended sensitivity, not native. The A900 sensor goes up to ISO3200 only.

but with the new settings, the noise is well-controlled with good details. I will like to have more but really, the noise level is good enough for my use now.

SonyStyle IMM @ Jurong East has a demo set with a 50mm f1.4 lens attached.

Can you post your A700 shots? I tried the setting on my A700 but the pics didn't turned out as good as what was described.

Lightroom 2.5 is available now boasting of better conversion algorithm....

wonder if it means better jpg, etc...

wonder if it supports A850 raw?
