A850 A900 Firmware update

Significant improve in AF on my SIGMA 70-200 F2.8. Well I think an overall improvement in all my lens.

someone should do a before and after firmware upgrade test on focusing speed :)

No need la. I have been using my A900 for about a year. I know in some situation, the AF will go hunt and hunt. Now with this update, it is able to focus better.

I won't say lightning fast, but is definitely faster.

Yup so I guess from all the feedbacks, Sony solve the AF hunting drawback that some reviews brought up and AF speed improved.

More versatility in using MF lens.

ISO performance , remains the same

Overall great updates =) still making the A850 a great steal

alamak... no Mac version?

Just loaded the firmware.. Looks like AF is much more accurate with my Zeiss 85.

I've already used the new firmware (A900 V 2.00) and tried some shoots. yes for tele lens, i feel the AF (auto focus) is faster and more accurate, very useful

Does anyone experience AF with macro lens? My Sigma 70-300 still hunting around to focus.

Make sure don't try to focus on something that is closer than the minimum focus distance of the lens.

i think i am far enough. Its simply hunt around. The environment in my kitchen was dim light.

Thanks for this.

Upgraded both a900 and a850, it seems the AF torque is higher with the upgrade. It seems to be more accurate. Without the upgrade a850 seems sluggish as compared to a900. But after upgrade, it seems to be better but still fine a900 a lot more responsive.

It is a welcome upgrade.

Since the high-ISO noise is the main problem for A900, I'm wondering why they did not give enough effort in eliminating this issue in the new firmware? Or they just simply rely on the third-party software?

May be there is version 3... :D

Ya I actually got a little dissapointed too. I thought there is a little improvement in ISO and have been searching the net to see if there is other people concurring to me but failed to find any.

Focussing speed was already good before the upgrade. But of course i won't complain if it can get even faster..

There's physics and hardware. A firmware cannot "eliminate" a hardware limitation.

There's a good reason why even the D3X's ISO is limited.

The A900 is NOT, I repeat, NOT designed as a high-ISO body, and sony never said it was. It's designed to be a low-ISO studio/portrait/landscape king, and this is where it shines.

Yup. A850 is really not for people wanting high iso performance like the newer breed of Sony sensors . Personally I don't think the iso performance is bad. 3200 is still usable.

The dynamic range and details of the camera is simpily fantastic. The ovf is amazing , the grip is top notch, the buttons well spaced and positioned to make quick changes .

With the upgrade the af is much faster. Most importantly at it current street price of 2600-2700 for new set, where else can we get a full frame with such offering ? :)

Actually you still retain quite a bit of details even when shooting @ ISO3200. Till date with ACR 6 & Lightroom 3 noise has not being a concern for me at all.
