A850 A900 Firmware update

can't wait to upgrade mine. anyone here can share their end user experience with the firmware upgrade for A850?

Updated my a850 liao, Nothing much @.@"

If we look at the changes given from Sony, should not see very big changes, in terms of feature. But the improvement is great.

I updated mine, and I can really feel the AF speed increased and accuracy is very good as it claimed. IQ remains unknown but I guess it should be the same.

If the AF speed and accuracy is improved then it'll be a great upgrade for the a850/900 system.

i'm wondering if A900 firmware can use it on A850? if can achieve 5fps, all A850 owners will be very very very happy. :bsmilie:
anyone bold enuf to try? ;p

If that is unsuccessful, I wonder if it can be overwritten by the A850 firmware again now that it is available. If so, no harm trying I guess :)

Hows the performance on SSM lenses? Is the focusing lightning fast and more accurate?

As for the a900 FW on A850, can any brave soul try it?

If this update gives positive results, more alpha aps-c users will be temted to go FF.

How about the metering, is there an improvement?. This is my biggest problem with the old firmware. Metering is not that accurate compared to recent alpha apsc's.

I have test it with Minolta 50F17 and 1635cz, at my underlit livingroom, and I can see that the AF did not hunt at all and got straight on target, very pleasant experience as I recalled I could get a bit of hunting at low light even with CZ lens.

A850 has been well known for its accurate metering. This aspect is usually measured by what a good light meter reads off for the same reflective light at the camera position, comparing with spot metering of camera. If you are talking about full metering mode, it really depends on user's preference to set a stop lower at low light to get accurate colors or higher stop to get a brighter image...

my A850's metering is accurate.

Its only the white balance that is suspect at times, and I notice my A55's white balance is more accurate than the A850's.

But this is a small matter only, since I shoot in raw anyway :)

oh i guess its just me. Im a new sony a850 user. I used a550 for more than a year prior to upgrading and i always use Multi zone and the exposure is acceptable on almost all conditions. Or is it because they made a550 more user friendly. But for the a850' i always found myself using spot coz multizone tends to overexpose when im indoor in daytime with many windows.

lol this thread flushed out so many silent a850 and a900 users, anyway the firmware is just out, maybe by next week we will be able to read more reviews on the improvements

i followed the instructions:

1) format memory stick
2) download DSLRA850v20.exe and extract it into DSCA850.APP
3) copy DSCA850.APP to the memory stick's root folder
4) switch on A850

but it doesn't prompt any confirmation window ler :dunno:

not possible to load it to a850...

Upgraded the A850 firmware. Yes the focusing is faster. Not sure about the better ISO performance. My apologies I read this thread only after upgrading firmware.

Quick AF lock in available light compare the v1.0 on my α900.
Nice !

someone should do a before and after firmware upgrade test on focusing speed :)

upgraded; not sure noise performance has improved at all.
