A7s mark 2 !!!@

No, what i mean is that, i heard a7s2 has wide dynamic range but does it only apply for video? How about for still?

I know it's just on paper but if you look at dxomark score of a7s (heard that a7s2 using same sensor), it has lower score compared to a7 in terms of dynamic range. How true is this? Is that really significantly different?

I am wondering if worth to buy a7s2 looking at the price difference is quite big.

still's DR is always better or at least equal to video for any cameras.

but why do you want to buy a7s2 for still...just no point.
For still A7R2 is much better than A7S2.

It is true A7 has better DR than A7s, but i guess you wont notice.

honestly, i almost bought A7R2 but i am holding it back until i see how A7S2 fares

i tested A7R2 in Sony Somerset.
my impressions:
1. lagging and slow. not sure if this is the card issue or the high mega pixels thing.
2. file size especially if shooting raw.
3. (reported) overheat issue if i want to take video (although i seldom use my camera for video but i do shoot video sometimes)
4. i don't need high mega pixels due to storage

things that i am currently looking at:
1. better or at least on par dynamic range as A7 (since i am currently using A7)
2. better color depth (so far samples flying around internet for A7R2 color looks appealing to me)
3. IBIS (upgrade from A7)
4. corner smearing issue when shooting with wide angle M mount lens (this also have been solved with A7R2)

i am wondering if A7S2 has improved DR for still compared with its predecessor

The A7S2 should be a good camera. The original a7s already did pretty ok with wide angle M mount lenses, but the a7r2 does better in terms of the smearing issues due to the BSI sensor which is absent from the a7s2.

The other consideration will be AF. A7S2 has better low light AF, but A7R2 has better CAF tracking capabilities.

the rest are quite similar. i agree with you on file size. I will gladly take a reduced resolution compressed raw option, like the S raw on canon cameras.

why not just get the original a7s? if you dont shoot video often, and if you dont really need 4k video, the original a7s is a great buy in my view.

i want the IBIS hence i discount A7S :)

i am now even thinking of A72 but seems that A72 only improved in handling and IBIS compared with A7.
but the hype now is all on A7R2 and A7S2 hahaha *infected by BBB virus*

hehe yea. a72 still has problems in the corners with leica/RF UWA lenses.

if budget is not an issue, just buy the A7S2! A little bit of DR difference does not matter. The A7S still has outstanding DR even if it was slightly below the A7 or A7R

yup, i am still contemplating to bite the bullet or not..

moreover the shop has called me. stock comes in already

and yet i am still waiting for more review on the net

Guess you would'nt really notice the differences in DR...
A7R2 or A7S2..

Few hundred dollar aisde..

Which is more important for you..

megapixels?
cleaner high ISO?
Better AF in the dark?
Faster AF?

If your choice is A7R2. Is getting latest camera really important to you. Is 42 too much for you. Then consider the A7II and save yourself 2 thousand dollars. And the megapixel sits nicely in between the 12 and 42.. being 24.

swallow the bullet already :)

can't wait to test it myself rather than waiting for review.. if not up to my expectation, then i'll just sell it away.. but so far so good from my brief testing last night.

congrats! share some samples and shots pls tks :D

sure. will do so :)

Share some low ISO shots too ! (Most review sites shoot it at high ISO to show off, but I'll like to see it being used as a "normal" camera)

well done.. Hope it works well for you ;)
erm.. May i know how big is the file size for 12MP uncompressed raw?

the uncompressed raw file size is 25mb

i'll post decent pics once i use it.. currently only shooting within the house for test shot

hehe if only the a7r2 can have a reduced resolution raw!

bro, buy another one to replace your 5d3 :)

so you have option which one to use. if you need high res you can use A7R2 meanwhile for day to day can use A7S2 :D

finally managed to put my hands on this amazing camera and use it over the weekend. So far the impression i have is very very good.

I have been using A7 and 5D3 for quite some time but this camera is nothing but amazing..

significant improvement that i can feel (especially compared with my A7):

1. IBIS - you have to try to feel the difference compared with the A7/S/R without IBIS. in fact from my testing of A7R2 in Sony 313 Somerset, i find this A7S2 is much better since i can handheld shoot at 0.4 sec exposure with 90mm focal length. perhaps with high megapixels of A7R2 it's more demanding

2. Silent shutter - with this feature you can really shoot in discreet. totally silent. i never thought that this feature is shooting in completely silent. with this feature on i think i can even shoot in slower shutter speed due to no vibration at all :)

3. Metering - much better than A7. no more underexpose like A7

4. Corner smearing/magenta cast - no more. tested with my only wide angle lens Zeiss 18mm ZM. vignette wide open is minimal and easily fixed.

5. Reflection on sensor - still there however much improved (less reflection). only from certain angle it will cause some light reflections which is still ok (for me). not that apparent.

6. DR - haven't tested and compared it head to head with A7. but i would say indistinguishable based on my short testing

7. Noise - i am impressed. at ISO 64000 the detail and color accuracy are still there. with video it looks even cleaner

8. 4k video - something i need to explore more and looking forward to use it more and more. however based on my short test recording, it's very breeze to use and very steady due to IBIS and the quality of 4k really amazing in terms of detail.

I have no AF lens for E mount so i could not test on the AF especially the -5 EV AF. curios to test this

that's all my impression so far..

asked one of the aunty to help taking our group photo

she even managed to shoot at 1/30 sec with awkward posture and how the way she hold the camera :)
i forgot to up the shutter speed for her but turn out no motion blur - thanks to IBIS
