That looks pricey...but I think the live view feature is probably what slows down the E510, so maybe dropping it wasn't such a bad idea. I eagerly anticipate the L10 since it did what Canon did for PnS: Properly articulated live view, not like Oly's E330. Then again, the description seems to imply that the A700 is more in the league of prosumer than consumer...

The live view got slow down the E510 meh?? where got connection?

I personally am really disappointed in the sony did not include live view in the A700. Automatically not under consideration when I upgrade.

I want this:

seriously, what will you be using the liveview for?

Just good for heating up the sensor and causing noise.

dSLRs are stuffed full of electronics. Additional component to fire up? That would probably slow things down.

framing this kind of shots?

Frankly, personally, I find that talking about ISO, megapixel, DR, etc quite trivial. Nothing is more impt than the view point. If the DSLR allows me more flexibility is choosing the viewpoint, it is a HUGE plus in my book.

aiya. I am IC deisgner. Trust me, component powering up time is measureed in micro seconds.... or milli seconds....

BTW, I used to own a KM7D because of its built-in stabilizer. Used to play like $2k+ for such a premium function. The feature set is pretty impt, more than megapixel and noise. Example with in-body IS, you gain like 2-3 stops.... far more difference than any minor ISO performance difference. Similarly the presence of live view offers me possibilities that are otherwise DIFFICULT, troublesome or impossible to do.

Unless the LCD can tilt like on the H9, "Live view" is not gonna help much with those kind of shots. A ladder will work wonders instead.

:) imagine myself carrying ladder + hiking along great ocean road.

Yup agreed on the tilting part, the pic was taken with the oly E330 which is currently the best in terms of live view as it offers full AF, exposure, etc during live view and the LCD can tilt on one axis. The new oly E-3 and pana L-10 all have full tilt LCDs. only the E-3 has built in stabiliser though.

Personally I shoot mainly travel photos and portraits and I already find the live view REALLY USEFUL. I would also think that it is very useful to macro shooters, with the 10x mag allowing you PRECISE on the dot focusing. I can NEVER manual focus but with live view 10x, I can usually do better than the AF :)

but I know sony will have live view lah. sure one, it is only a matter of time.

it's not a make it or break it thing for me lah, since i'm used to only using the viewfinder. but live view on non-dslr cameras has been pretty useful.

sony said some months ago, and again in an interview after the a700 was launched, that they haven't put in live view because they feel that the current implementation isn't good enough. they want to do a proper live view, not do halfway.

let's see how the nikon d300 live view with contrast detection AF works lah. i think that's a big useful step. i tried the first olympus live view model and was very disappointed - shutter lag too long. not sure how much the newer olympus cams have improved on that.

basically i think the manual focus magnified live view is probably good enough for landscape and macro purpose. but i'd like a quick AF live view with mirror lockup and silent operation for candids and streets.

in the meantime, can always fall back to your angle finders :X
