let's wait for real life test first before going into any preliminary conclusion :)

Just looking at what is in the A700, there is no "industry's first" innovations, besides a 16:9 cropped mode, and it's nothing more than an improved 7D with added features from A100 and the film 7 such as DRO, grip sensor and AF illuminator.

After reading through again, I found that the multi segment metering is linked to AF points. I'll retract my comment on tying the spot meter with AF point as it should serve the same purpose.

The A700 should stand well against the competition from 40D, if it's priced competitively.

sighz..but i really hate the part where A700 dont have live view.. considering even the other competitors in the same segment has it.. and 40D even priced lower..

Surely "pure" photographer won't see much of a need to use live view.. but I feel it will be useful at special situations.. and having live view doesnt mean you have to shoot through using the lcd all the time..

If a DSLR have live view, I would want it to have a rotatable LCD like the Lumix L10 DSLR. I wouldn't mind not having it as I seldom get into those situations. But yes, it does show that the Sony is a step behind in this.

U get your wish... Dewakarma reported in another thread that the A700 should be priced similar to the A100 at its launch - that works out to around $1500... body only of course...

DPreview reported the A700 at USD$1400. Sonystyle USA is accepting orders at USD$1399.99. That should work out a RRP of around SGD$2100, maybe just slightly more than 40D RRP of SGD$2099. Will have to wait and see in the coming months as the street prices are known.

Have faith in Sony ................ to release the cam at a higher price than what DK and YC hve reported ............. :what:

I don't need to rely on any source to know exactly what I am saying ........... you would be very lucky if you can get this cam at the same price as the Canon 40D @ $1799/- ;)
