A7 to XT1

Query to people whom have shooting experience with both A7 and XT1. How is the AF speed and AF Accuracy comparison ? I do not bother with other things, I just want to nail the focus which is the most important factor. (Not for sports, just to shoot 5 years old active kids indoor.)

I tried both , you will probably face some difficulties shooting a 5 year old kid running around but it's still doable with some practice.

AF speed on the A7 is slightly faster (I had FE55 and FE35) than the X-T1. Note that diff primes behave differently on the X-T1 ; for example the 23/1.4 locks on faster than the 35/1.4 and the 27/2.8 is even faster. I've a friend who tried using the 56/1.2 to shoot kids playing sports -- doable , but be prepared to lose a few shots.

AF accuracy , A7 is slightly better , but this is just my opinion too. I mostly shoot MF on my X100S due to missing too many shots from AF speed and accuracy.

Am I the friend you are talking about? :) 56mm prime lens is not ideal for sports, too much movement it will be hard to engaged focus and no flexibility to zoom to get the right framing. However for normal kids activities shots, it works perfectly. It is a great portrait lens. Wider lens such as 23mm and zoom lens such as 18-55mm, 18-135mm and even 55-200mm may work better in engaging the focus. Focusing speed is fast but don't expect the auto focus accuracy to be better or on par with dslr, it depends on situation and you will have to learn how to overcome those limitations.

if u care about weight (tt's 1 reason we move to mirrorless)

A6000 + 10-18 + 55-210 = 915g
XT1 + 10-24 + 55-200 = 1.43 kg
A7 + 16-35 + 70-200 = 1.8kg

fuji is somewhat lighter than A7 but heavier than a6000.
but the above a6000 lenses cant compete with fuji's quality

Yes. All reviews are personal.

I find it strange also. I am from the a7 camp and I find the grip for XT-1 much better. Hoho

Funny review, just a user giving his personal point of view. It just made MFT and canon worthless.

I just posted this on his site , comment awaiting moderation.

[hi ,

I was asked by a friend to read this and I must say I'm disappointed that as a reviewer it does seem you are biased. For example:
1. 'u can't see the full image because u wear glasses'.
2. 'The X-T1 cheats with its ISO values' are already two biased statements that speak of the reviewers mediocre skills.

I've used the A7 , FE55 ; X-T1 and almost every single lens Fujifilm has and I own the EM1 too - and saying the MFT sensor can't do low light and macro is the most biased statement of all.

If anything I'll gladly invite you to visit the image sharing threads by MFT cameras in the Clubsnap forum.

And in all, the A7 , X-T1 , EM1 had their pros and cons - none is a clear winner , a good photographer will know how to utilize each one].

1. i agree this is the user problem then camera prob.
2. Fuji sensors do overstate their iso by 2/3 stops as seen from test everywhere like dpreview and etc

Not all reviews or forum chat are creditable.

when I was still in the choosing stage (before I got the X-T1), I did compared the A7 to X-T1. And for many months after using the X-T1, there are still a few things (tiny, very very tiny) that had me still thinking about getting the A7, is that the wonderful things it can do with a lot of vintage lens. Compared with APCS, FF is still FF. I can only wish ZhongYi can comes up with a m42 lens turbo for FX soon, so that I can play with the Helios without getting the swirly bokeh chopped off! And then, I will have enough "reason" to get the Helios 40!!! Kekekeke...

Its a horrid opinion piece rather then a review. I guess it does get him more reads/hits. Don't get frazzled by these people who love sit on the middle ground and bash the smaller/larger sensors.

Note: Its quite widely known that Fuji inflates/cheats their ISO values.. Its a marketing strategy so they can say "My images are clean at ISO 3200 (When its actually running at ISO 2000, and thus require a slower shutter to achieve the same level of exposure as another camera running at ISO 3200) They done it since the XPro1 days, and have actually pushed it more in the XT1. Soon it will be one whole stop higher.

Its easy to make sweeping statements, but harder to resist arguing with idiots like this. I mean, A7, X-T1, EM1.. pfft.. Wait till he touches a Nikon !

*hides*

There's a version 2 lensturbo for NK to FX out, very close to the metabones speedbooster now with better coatings, etc. But if u're into m42, you gotta wait for the Canon-FX lensturbo to use those lens.
Check out famecherry for prices. Nice dude.

I've contacted them long ago regarding the pk-fx lens turbo, he advised me to get it together with a m42-pk adapter, but ZhongYi discontinued the lens turbo, only left nk-fx. They said it will comes, I'm not in a hurry to get it either, might as well save the money, for now.

I owned the M42-PK + PK-FX lensturbo v1 before. One issue is the M42-PK adapter is very hard to get (a good one). Only the original pentax adapters are good (and will give a resulting proper lens mount). The cheap china ones are horrible. I've got better experience with the M42-Canon adapters and a Canon-FX speedbooster. v1 of lensturbo was decent, but badly needed better coatings which the v2 will have.

Now that NK-FX v2 is out, Canon-FX v2 should be out pretty soon.

I see... Do you still have the lens turbos? Possible to meet up and let me play for a while?? Hehehe...

Sorry, sold them all all :P The problem was that if you're looking for real quality, the metabones speedbooster is really what you want to own, but its just tad expensive. You can buy an A7 for that amount of money (booster+camera)

I'm using both A7 and X-T1.

A7 over X-T1:
- Video
- Peaking

X-T1 over A7:
- SOOC color
- Lenses availability

Cheers.

Hi

what is this fuji colour that people always say looks so good. Can i see a side by side comparison with other manufacturer?

Preference for colors are always subjective , there will be users who prefer cold neutral tones while some prefer warmer tones. That said Fujifilm does an excellent job in rendering skin tones in their sooc Jpegs.
