A6000

Read some reviews on the 16-50mm lens that comes with the A6000. Seems like the corners of images are soft even at smaller apertures.

16-50mm kit:

I thought the much more expensive Carl Zeiss 16-70mm will be a lot sharper. But reviews are saying it's only marginally better than the kit lens. And this reviewer thinks it's too expensive with image quality not as great as he would expect (scroll directly down to his Conclusion section):

So are there any other decent choices you all use for E-mount standard zoom lenses for A6000?

Thanks for sharing.

Get the older 18-55mm standard zoom ... sold off the 16-50 and so much happier with it. More contrasty and sharper ... it's permanently on my a6000 now.

I am using the zeiss 16-70mm. Very good image quality. Bokeh is great.

Just sharing. I was buying a bag at a popular shop in AMK and asked about A6000 body. With the cashback promo (3 more days), it's just $740. Pretty good price.

Going to get the a6000
First time camera buyer. Besides the 10% Sony discount, anyone know the current best deal for the a6000?
Plan to get it with the kit lens
Also, is it safe to buy camera online? Because online, there's a few which I saw way cheaper than the Sony Center price.
Or is it better to get from Sony itself?
If it's okay to buy online, what are reputable websites to get them from?

Sorry for so many questions, first time investment in camera, and it's not cheap for a student! Thanks in advance for any answers, deeply appreciated

Try not to buy from sony center. Buy it from local retail shop around funan and penisula plaza, you will get the price lower than discount price of rrp now

$764 for body is worth it on recent sale from some funan shop

Just grab it while it's on 10% promo.

1099 after discount should be 989. 989 for A6000 + Kit + 16GB +

You can get even lower from official Sony distributor. They give lower price on top of that 10% discount with more freebies.

At Sony Centre Funan, 989 for A6000 + Kit + 16GB + Bag + Extra Battery (offered by the staff, unofficial) + Complimentary Sony Workshop + Chiplak Mini Tripod for A6000
At TK, 984 for A6000 + Kit + 16GB + Bag + PWP Battery (39) + Screen Protector (5) + Complimentary Sony Workshop + Sirui Mini Tripod (Max out ~30cm with ball head, built like a proper tripod but mini in size)

Just beware that some of the shops are selling at about the same or lower price but their package is different from Sony. Like A6000 + Kit + 8GB Card. I'm not sure how the system works here but seems to me that they're not "official distributor". Also not sure is whether their camera even have local warranty.

I thought I saw the a5000 kit being sold at $399 on qoo10, just another option..

Coming from NEX-5R, I must say that I'm really happy with my recent purchase of the A6000. For a amateur like me, I find the focusing speed so much faster coupled with the many buttons, in-built flash as well as the EVF - it is definitely a natural progression for someone coming from a 5R. Coming over from 5R, I initially had some reservations about not having the touch screen shutter and was considering the a5100. After using it for a few days, completely unnecessary worry as the focusing is so smart! The Nissin i40 flash is a perfect combo for this camera. Another item is the SEL1670Z lens; I find improvements in the overall sharpness and quality of the pix now…

Only regret is that I should have gotten it before my year end holiday :)!

not forgetting the viewfinder. it is a MUST!

gonna get the i40 flash BUT must convince FM first.

Thanks for the info.
I just bought the A6000 from Malaysia.
Together with kit lens for RM2030 (approx. $770)
Comes with 16GB Sony Memory Card, and the Sony bag, with extra batt.
Also got the 55-210 lens for RM799 (approx. $303)
Looking forward to play with it!

Hi everyone!!

After some deliberation, I have finally bought the Sony A6000! Currently only have kit lens but so far so good, still playing around with it. Now just need to get a few more things, perhaps a reasonable priced tripod, perhaps a working second hand dry cabinet, and at least the Sony 35mm F1.8 prime lens (maybe a good condition second hand one). So if anyone has a good deal seen somewhere (i'm still searching through the forum) or is willing to let go of these let me know k :P

Also some questions to ask:
1) I heard from a friend that I can get a adaptor for my camera to fit in other lens. Question is what is this adaptor he's talking abt ah? Is there specific adaptors for specific brands of lens? If so, what's a good one to start with for this camera ah? Sorry being really noob here.
2) I know the camera does not have in-body Image stabilization. I heard that by using the adaptor i basically lose the AF capability. And without the image stabilization (some lens do not come with it i suppose?) how does it really affect the image quality ah? I need to have very stable hands for this? Cos also thinking of getting one or two of these lens to play ard with, perhaps with portrait shots or something.
3) what's a good size for a first dry cabinet ah? I don't think i will buy super lots of lens at the moment (I think la...) so is 30l too much or too little?

Thanks in advance for your kind help bros! :)

Welcome aboard~
Tripods are pretty cheap these days first hand. Can consider Sirui tripods over at TK Foto in Funan. Can get a pretty decent one below $200 (eg T-025 model).

For dry cabinets probably can walk around Funan and have a look too. If not there are many to view at Harvey Norman(got mine below $150). I am using a 30L one to store just the A6k body, 4 lenses, camera pouch. Still got enough space for a couple more lenses.

No idea on adaptors as the E-mount range is more than enough for me. UNLESS you have existing lenses from other brands then need the adaptor.
If not just save yr money for E-mount glass.

Just my 1 cent worth. Cheers :)

I see! Thanks for your reply bro!
Just asking cos what my friend told me was pretty intriguing for me, cos he mentioned how cheap legacy lens can be and it has the capability to give much better quality for the price paid. I look at the emount lens, some good ones are costing a bomb so that's stopping me a little. Even the 35f1.8 is costing quite high...
