A6000

I have been there. they have a shooting gallery with multiple subjects for u to shoot.

sadly, they do not have a place to test out sunrise or sunsets, which I shoot most often

Have money to buy a camera and lens mean you have the money to t-loan either the lens or the body or both for one day and go to wherever you like to shoot and feel yourself. Must set up so many things for you. Want to set up a cafe nearby for you to drink while you shoot sunset???

Canon HK showroom suit him more la =)

Any reason why we should not use continuous AF for still subjects?

That depends on what still objects you are shooting and at what aperture.
Continous AF is only effective at F4 and above if i'm not mistaken.
Also, the camera might not focus on the eyes for portraits in AF-C...it choses something in general that's closest..may not necessarily be the eyes...so if you're shooting at f2 and in AF-C for portraits...high possibility the eyes are not in focus.

hawthorne, if u still don't understand...why not try it urself? u have A6000 + lens right?

u can even test AF continuous with recompose...

Do u understand what is continuous..
??

Up to you. Your own preference.

play nice guys. AF-C may not be the best option because you're trying to focus on something that's not moving.

AF-C, as long as your finger is half-pressed onto the shutter release, will keep working the focusing element back and forth, so as to keep moving subjects in focus.

trying to focus on a still subject, and your hand moves a little or someone behind the subject starts moving. the focusing point will change, especially if you're using wide-area AF points.

therefore, when shooting still objects, use AF-S to lock the focus

That depends on what still objects you are shooting and at what aperture.

Continuous AF is also affected by the AF module's sensitivity. that's why certain PDAF modules in higher-specced cameras have F2.8 sensitive AF Points.

and not even close. the camera detects motion and re-focuses on the moving object, or compensates for the movement.

if you're using Wide-area AF Points, good luck to you if there is a lot of motion behind your subject.

if you're using Spot AF, it's better because you know which point will be focused upon. but if you press the shutter all the way down when the camera's still focusing, you'll get an OOF shot.

I don't see what's un-nice about my previous comment...

I noticed the A6000 takes a while to "load" the camera system after a long period of time.

The camera is on, but only with live view without the UI loaded and cannot trigger shots. Everything resumes to normal after 10-15 sec later.

Do you guys experience the same thing?

You mean while in stby mode And it takes 10-15 sec to "wake" ?

I Remb experience something like that But it's from off mode.

if u first on after putting in batt, this might happen. if u on again from off without removing batt, the startup will be much faster. also depending if u r using original or (weaker) 3rd party batt.

I left the original battery in the camera for 3 wks in off state.

There's where the lag triggers. But subsequent usage no more delays. Probably the A6000 when into "deep sleep" mode?

it is the same for A7r.

it's the same for all Sony cameras...I believe the camera reads the lens and all the other presets and loads into memory or something like that..kinda like a PC booting up...after the initial boot, everything is fast and quick...
Whenever you load a new batt, the first turn on takes long..If you leave it off for too long, it also auto shuts down and take long to boot up again...
I don't have this issue since i use the camera very often and everytime i change a batt i will turn on and off and keep in drybox...it actually stays on for 10sec to load everything before it turns off and this is even when the switch is already at OFF :)

Thanks for all the replies. Just to make sure it's a norm.

Any users of the sel16f28 lens here? The reviews I read online seem to suggest that it is quite a decent set of lens for its price. Was in Funan enquiring about it but was out of stock in the shops. 1 shop commented that they are unlikely to restock since this is an old lens that came with the nex series. Are there any 3rd parties equivalent which i can consider?

I have the SEL16F28. it is rarely used as I find that the image quality leaves much to the desired. online research shows that the lens seems to work better when paired with the UWA or the FEA.

I am using the SEL20F28 instead. this one has a better IQ

When i try to view my shot, it will still say it is writing to card or something. Its a 45mb/sec card. No problem using the same class of card on d610 but awfully slow writing on the a6000. Anyone also having this problem?

Even if you have quick formatted the card, physically there may have data in it so when you write to it, it actually has to erase the blocks it is trying to write to before it can re-write again.

Before you confirm it is the camera's problem, you should put the SDcard into your computer and do a "FULL" format. This will erase all the blocks in the sdcard to 1's ready to be written again.

I was shooting my event (www.asiapacyoyo.com) with 3xA6000 cameras using the FE2470,FE55 and 1650kit lenses.
It was set to WIDE AF-C mode...shooting in M mode with the widest aperture, 1/200 and ISO from 2000-6400..
I must say, i'm super impressed with the A6000. Previous years, we were using Canon 5D3 and 1Dx cameras and though they were good, they were big and heavy.
This year, we went all Sony..
The a6000 focused super quick..the camera's Wide AF detected the player's face and tracked him perfectly and shooting was a breeze. Shooting over 3000 photos a day, the camera never once failed and only missed focus less than 10 photos in total.

A friend was using the EM1 and another was using the XT1. The EM1 worked in single AF mode and didn't track very well..the XT1 totally could not focus until you moved in much closer. The Face detect and continuous AF on the XT1 failed 100% of the time where the a6000 which was just side by side, focused and tracked every single time.

I've never been more impressed with any camera like i am with this one..Well done a6k!

Thanks for sharing. Did you shoot mostly in single-shots or burst mode?

Only in single shot mode because the tracking works so well, there's really no need to burst and hope for the best..you can see it through the EVF with your own eyes and click when you want to..knowing it will definately be in focus so all i have to concentrate on is picking the moment to press rather than to struggle with focus and composure and then clicking..which would be too late.
