A55 owner.. pls come in..

While its true that a55 can hit 10fps, EVERY dealer and source failed to mention one crucial fact: The buffer is exactly for 10 frames. After the 1st second, the fps drops to god knows what. I seriously do not think that 1sec is enough, especially if you are sports fanatic. That said, im actually impressed with the features and the quality of pics. But i still prefer good o'l OVF, as the EVF drains batt faster and i dont really use the macro function a lot. Plus the form factor of the a55 is pretty small, and may put ppl off in the ergonomics segment.

Cheers!

On spec A55 Continuous Shooting Buffer>> Fine: 35 frames, Standard: 39 frames, RAW: 20 frames, RAW+JPEG: 20 frames. Definitely more than 2s at 10fps. On actual usage, with a fast memory card can get longer.

I am not sure have you tried the a55 or just another hearsay from other fanboys? I have been bursting like good 5-10s without any problems at 10fps. Though the buffer clearing might take a while, but its definitely more than 10frames.

I concur with the last 2 postings too !

I've been bursting 10fps (BIF and MIF) every opportunity I get and it's DEFINATELY more than 1 sec, more like at least 3-4 secs before any noticable slow down.

I suspect hotchoco1ate did not have the A55 set up well for 10fps ...Ie: Wide AF, slow lens and/or low contrast subject. :dunno:

i tried burst 10fps even for 4-5 secs, no prob

i am a new owner of A55.

things i like:

user friendly.
features are easy to access
the panorama, HDR, low light handheld features are really nice to have
light weight
small
kit lens are very usable, also 50mmf1.8 great lens
video recording is the best in SLR

cons:
the finishing look cheap
plasticky..(i guess this result in lighter weight, which is a big plus)
LCD viewfinder, i prefer optical
battery ( u need 2)

i just sold my 5dm2 (use it for a yr) then bought a d7K and sold within a week...

5dm2 is a superior camera...those review that rate d7k above 5dm2 is:thumbsd:

i gave up 5dm2 due to weight, and features not user friendly...i even forgotten how to switch to take video!
i am not a professional, and dont need a FF...and i thought 5dm2 is quite dated technology and better sell off before price come down...

then i heard about all the rave about d7K...and i bought it becos of av tracking...
but i tell you the av autofocus tracking doesnt come close to A55...

noise level, maybe d7k is better...but i hardly shoot at high ISO...i dont print bigger than a4 size??

and to me, it becomes neither here nor there...sold it after 1 week
either get the top range or get something that meet my basic needs and user friendly...

A55 is fun to use....overcome the mental barrier that camera usually the 2 common brands nikon and canon... at first, i have this mental barrier too..when my friend told me about sony, i told them they make tv, dvd, blah blah u sure they can make cameras? i use nikon back in film days...

but nikon n canon do have a big advantage in the selection of lenses...

if u don mind 2nd hand, u can add the minolta lenses into ur choices. And they are much cheaper as well :)

You have to update the GPS quite frequently for accuracy. I update at least once a forthnight via usb.

Do u just plug into usb? Or u need to install the cd package that came together?
Thanks

Do you even know what you're talking about? So "every source" includes all the major review sites, hmmm?

# JPEG (Fine): around 10 fps for 30 frames then about 2fps dropping to 1.5fps after 37 frames
# RAW: around 10 fps for 19 frames, then around 0.5 fps
# RAW + JPEG: around 10 fps for 20 frames, then about 0.4 fps

Nope. hotchoco1ate only hung out at John 3:16 and took everything they said as gospel.

Welcome to the DSLT club ! :bsmilie:

I had the CD software installed (PMB and Lightbox) and am starting to grow into it, pretty useful for managing the photos and working on the RAW images.

If your PC is connected to the internet, everytime you plug the A55 to the PC via USB, the GPS data is updated into your DSLT (You'll see a dialog box telling you about this) ...once you're done, you can view the version in your camera at the setup menu and even delete it.

The GPS feature is pretty nifty !:bsmilie: ...I was able to view where my photos were taken on a google map accurate to within a 10m radius.
I'm doing all my Photo management, editing, conversion, etc in Sony's PMB and lightbox now including viewing the GPS location.

Hi all a55 users need advices as I am getting my set by this wk.

As I'm going on a tour soon, base on your experience, can 2 batteries last the whole day before I can charge in the hotel in the night to prepare for the next? Or I need more than that?

I anticipate that I shld me shooting mostly pics and maybe less than 10 short clips.

Thks

to be safe bro get a 3rd battery I have two batteries before when I went to Universal studiou with my family was there for 8hrs and used up 1 battery and at the end of the day my 2nd battery was like 45% left so it's safe to have two but to be sure make it 3 hehehe. And also I was using RAW+JPEG so battery life is even shorter plus using EVF around 75% of the time

Eerrrr ok ..... Another question.

Any idea how much the batt cost?

I'm thinking of getting 2 original n 1 3rd party batt if the cost is an issue.

Anybody using 3rd party batt? Or totally not recommended?

Thks.

resolution also plays a part i think. tried it before and if the Jpeg resolution is set lower, your 10fps remains for a longer period.. simple math i guess..

but of course, with 16mp who wants to use a lower resolution aha.

It really depends on how you use the cam. On a recent trip to China, I brought along 3 original batteries but was able to get along one whole day with just one pack.
Just to give you an idea of how much shooting was done ...5 days - 40Gb used up.

But I would advocate that you have at least one spare battery ...just in case your shooting extends into the night.

Hi All,

As you know the A55 (I think all Alpha camera now are the same) don't come with the flash shoe cover (or what every you call it), do you buy 3rd party cover? I am using my old minolta 5D cover, but it need replacement due to the old age and scratch it had on it. Any idea how much is one?

Only the more expensive model like the A850 comes with original cover. But you can get this original cover from Sony at $12 a piece which I feel is expensive. ebay cheap cheap...$2+ only.

I happened to walk into a HN shop today and just wana check out the promo before the sitex tomorrow for a55.

The salesman says im lucky cos if i want i better take now as is the last set left.

I saw that the display set was not there but the rack and the price tag was there.

It just came into my mind that can this be the display set?

I thank him and walk out. I am wondering is there any security tag on the box to indicate that is brand new or is there anyway to check is the camera brand new and not tested or used before?

Thanks.

Brought all my Cameras from MSC and everyone of them came in a 'factory sealed' box.
