What lens are you using? the kit lens? Hows the noise at ISO 1600? As good as A700 v4?
The repair cost is quite high, i'd rather get a 2nd a700 or a brand new a500/550 if i were you. The hi ISO performance improvement from a100 -> a500/550 is massive, easily 2 stops if not 3. Not to mention other nice-to-have features as well like liveview, hi fps. Sad that Sony chose not to include the MLU, but what to say, it's next to impossible to hard a perfect thing in this life.
Oh btw, memory cards are cheap nowadays. I don't see switching to SD as a deal breaker here.

There's an extended warranty program going on for alphas now, should be useful, considering sony doesn't actually repair parts, they simply replace them. That and their $60 w/o gst service charge :bsmilie:
Yea, it's great to see the new alphas accepting SD cards, which are waaay cheaper. I believe the current high speed ones are about the same speed as CF cards isn't it? correct me if I'm wrong
Tried the A330 & the AF is somewhat better than the predecessors. If shooting in low light mount on a hotshoe flash to utilise the AF assist lamp for faster lock-ons

I think the af is still okie. View finder is still ok. Eh... Unless you are comparing with A700 or A900?
Of course it will be perfect if it uses the same dual cross af sensor like A700... better viewfinder, pentaprism.... etc etc. :bsmilie: but bear in mind, it will make your wallet thinner.
It is the best priced feature packed dslr I have ever seen so far.
I was considering going full frame A850 (which is already quite attractive price in its class), but A5XX series pulling me back...... pulling me so hard that I was almost glued to it at Sony gallery.
I used to play with A850 whenever I passes Sony gallery. But A500 has got a better magnet this time.:lovegrin:

A550 high ISO definitely looks 2 stops better which is great and that is with the extra MPs!:bsmilie:
Guess I'm waiting for A7X0 to see what it improves on the A5X0 and the price difference before I make a decision.

Me too holding back on getting the A550 until at least the A700 replacement is announced. I've find the FF bodies less interesting as compared to the A550, more of serious working tool. The A550 looks fun....
OT : As an enthusiast who mostly shoots at parties and family functions the A700 aim at my subjects will produce a less than natural smile as the photographer(me) looks too serious with the gears. Their response towards a PnS and my gear when posing is different, I had to tell them to relax more often b4 every shot. Imagine using an A900 or a850 + VG + CZ 24-70 + HVL-58AM.

noise control is excellent. i just bought mine today, even at ISO 1600 noise is barely visible. Not so sure about comparison with A700 tho.
