i shoot with D-range off..i don't see a big difference with on or off though...

Thanks ! ;)

On my LCD screen abit strong but on PC is slightly better. It depends on ur preference on color i guess.

For example this is shot in vivid. What do u think of the color?

It looks ok on my monitor. I am using Win Vista with Dell 1909 monitor. Thanks for your tips!

This one I took with d-Range on and Vivid

Here is another shot but metering off causing it to be under exposed. I brightened it up bit on PS.

Hi everyone, I just got my A550, I wonder if everyone shoot with D-Range on or off ? Also the Vivid setting seem too strong and saturated when view on my computer, do anyone have that problem ? Thanks

On my A300, I find that vivid mode has too much contrast and standard mode saturation is too low. After playing around with different settings, I finally use standard mode but +2 for both color and sharpening and I find this works fine for me. Maybe you want to try for your A550. But overall, the pics tend to be a bit underexposed so I normally brighten them during post processing.

Some photos taken with Minolta AF 35-80 F4-5.6 Power Zoom mounted on my A550.

Thanks! I had tried Std mode with Contrast +1, Saturation+1, Sharp+1 and works for me too.;)

HDR +2.0 could have work for this one, your shadows and highlights are totally clipped.

oo...okay thank you.
but will it be too bright?

I'm not talking about the exposual or metering here, I'm talking about the Dynamic Range (DR)

This is a good example of a difficult lighting shot, the hightlights (Sky above the train) is too bright and the shadows (black areas behind the gate) is too dark and DRO can only improve the DR up to a certain point.

This is where the multi-shots HDR feature could help improve the DR, ie: see some clouds in the sky and some details on the gate.

...ermm, you're shooting with an A500/A550 right ?

I see,
Understood. The HRD mode with shutter 2 time to product one balance picture

Will try to use this for shooting.
Thank you

It's a tool, learn it's limitation and strength then apply it where appropriate.

Enjoy your photo journey ! ;)

Clear shot bro! I didnt have a chance to test out the D-range yet. :D

Thank you! Hope you have the chance soon, look forward to your photo! ;)

 Thanks for sharing ! I learned something about the HDR function!

yup.
i will try the HDR setting this weekend and try to capture a better quality of picture.

By the way, which is the better travel lens if SAL16105 and SAL18250 or any suggest lens?

travel lens = all in one lens which will be the 18250.. IMO.. but i would rather get the minolta beercan if i need any zoom range up to 200..

HDR is NOT a magical cure all formula for all situations, in fact sometimes, it can produce a worst photo than shooting without HDR. Practise with it and learn to recognise situations where it can help improve DR.

Both are excellent travel lens for the money, which one will depend on what is more important to you, wide angle or reach.
