One quick question, are the sharpness considered ok in the above shots? I dunno. I was expecting DSLR shots to be super sharp. (Remember, I'm a total fresh noob on DSLR). Hehe.

Your Photos looks reasonably sharp, to see if they ARE really razor sharp, you'll need to provide a cropped sample, ie: enlarge a small portion of the photo.

Those photos you see in magazines taken by pros are done with megabucks lens !!! ...most certainly a $50 lens will not be able to hold a candle against them, but for the majority of us who need to balance price/performance ...'it's good enough' !

Whoa. Medium Format. then you'll have more issues like even thinner DOF at similar Aperture to a DSLR

Anyway, another diversion, do any of you guys use external flash? I'm thinking of getting one but very budget. <$150 hv or not? If not, is there a diffuser for the on-board flash for budget n beginner users like me? The flash is too strong lah...

Practice mastering the basics without flash first.....flash is another ballgame and that can come later.
