Hey bro, i like these photos. Did u use any teleconverter or macro filter especially on the 50mm lens? Seems like u can get real close to the dragonfly.

I am interested in macro however it seems that i can't get photos like these. :)

I think it's just right! Cheers!! ;)

Pictures are very nice. Was there any PP done?

for my photos, all were taken in ARW/RAW format, used sony's proprietary raw converter to convert the photos into JPEGS and in the process adjusted the saturation, D-Range and white balance. the only time the shots go into CS5 is when i need to tilt and crop since i took those clarke quay photos without a tripod thereby having the problem of tilted shots.

Just took this outside my office a couple of weeks back. :)
No post processing just RAW to JPG via Aperture.

Taken with: Sony Alpha a230 with Minolta 85mm f/1.4
Taken at: 1/500, ISO 100, f/1.4, 85mm

all taken via 18-55 kit lens at the singapore botanic gardens.

managed to get a $10. minolta 35-80 AF zoom/macro from one cash-con shop since the lens is "almost fungus free" but the coating of the front lens seems already worn out but without any scratch.. anyway i still bought it since it only cost $10 (no warranty).. initial test with the AF is still working.. and the color is a bit washed out probably due to the worn out coating?.. but the bokeh effect is impressive as compared to the sony 18-55 kit lens

Nice photos from a entry-level camera. Thanks for sharing the photos.
Just a recommendation: go to Cash Converter shop - AMK, TP, Admiralty, Bedok and one more, I can't remmber. Sometime you can find old Minolta lens that can fit your current camera at very good prices. Buy with care. Bring your camera there to check first before buying.
I am using Sony A200 & A350 cameras. I have bought some old ORIGINAL Minolta lens at very cheap prices - the 75 - 300mm F4 - 5.6 minolta white lens for about $150; the barrel lens - 70 - 200mm lens F4 - 5.6 for what nobody will believe - $25!
As always check first. When I went last to the AMK store, they have some lens for the Minolta / Konica / Sony AF series, but I don't need those lenses, so I did not buy any. Just go and check out the store once a while. You never know what you can find.
Always check first.
Happy hunting.:)

yeah everynow and then i would go either toa payoh or bedok to check for old minolta lenses. so far i have not seen a 200mm zoom which i am always on the lookout. the other shop i know is in parkway parade though i m not sure if that closed already, previously there was also a branch in punggol plaza but that one closed shop more than a year ago..

Here's some newbie fireworks shots. Due to overcrowding and reaching there late, i only manage to secure a spot near the helix. All taken with A300 Kit Lens 18 - 70 mm with tripod.
I'm using BULB mode, f11 with no wired shutter release. I think might be a better idea to get a remote shutter release.

hi hi, sorry for the late reply. think i used raynox 250 on the 50mm for the 2nd shot. think my lens was abt 10 to 15cm from the dragonfly.

a good way to start is with either raynox 250 or extension tube attached to the 50mm. they are abt S$120. try out and have fun. and if you really enjoy it, then think about investing into a macro lens such as the 50mm, 70mm, 90mm, 105mm or even the 180mm ;)

have fun & keep shooting!
