Was wondering if the A230 has the ability to mount M42 lens and release the shutter? Some of the Sony model need to disable the lens detect function so that the shutter can be release without then lens mounted.

Though your intention is not wrong, but I don't think we should start such thread at BnS. It is totally off-topic there.

agree with this..

Woah, seriously very heartpain :(.

Recently bought mine only then price reduced by 200bucks!

And I even thought stated prices will usually never go down :(.

Anyone can recommend some good place to buy the A230 using credit card installments? ;p

Wah you're going back to alpha mount ah? Sorry dun have any place to recommend...

Might consider the A230 as my "compact camera" for holiday or walkaround use since I dun really have a compact camera. And also when I wanna get nolstalgic and go back to manual focus M42 lens which I still have plus the adapter for it... ;p

since this is now the official RRP, u can probably get it at same price as courts, Best Denki and Harvey Norman i guess, which allows installment.

Gunjack, seems like you shoot with an A700.
Saw your blog pictures. :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Don't keep hopes of A230/330/380 high. I don't think this camera is suited for you. Your pixs so pro.
Dpreview has commented that this range is more of a step up from PNS.

Haha! Thanks for your flattering words, I am but a photo hobbyist and the occasional free lance! I sold my Sony A700 to get the Nikon D700. But I dont really care about brands or model as long as it meets my requirements. The Sony A230 is good enough for me as a holiday camera or walkabout camera even just with its kit lens as I do not have a compact camera and carrying the D700 can be quite tiring for trips.

And I also wanna try this again with my old M42 lens! :)

Wah... Saw a lot of new Sony DSLR coming up with not too expensive prices... Since I dun really need to get a 2nd camera yet, I guess I would hold and wait and see...

Sony original bag
ONE Battery
ONE 8G Memory stick (SONY)
ONE 8G SD Card (Kingston)
ONE LCD protector
ONE Tripod
TWO Lens filter

Total $899
But I chose to pay installment so got to pay 5% more

Ehhh, they give u extra batt and lens filter??? Seems like a better deal than buying from those big electrical stores.

Welcome to the Sony Alpha camp :D!

Happy shooting

Wow.......excellent camera. The function is just like a $1200 plus nikon or canon. :D

Retail shops always give better price or freebies compared to megastores ma, else who will buy from them.

For the price, I agree that it's quite attractive. But once you get the hang of the camera you may find that doing simple task like changing the focus pts need to go thru the whole lots of menu. Than you maybe thinking of upgrading to a more "advanced" model.

Given a choice, I would most likely choose the A300 instead of A330.

The Menu digging and the small size of the camera is problematic for me - but otherwise, at the price, it's hard to complain. Though, a few hundred dollars up, the a500 is very attractive, and much more feature packed, responsive and powerful. :)

Went sony style and kpo try the a500, quite a big cam and the burst mode is fast.
