Hihi,

Anyone knoes how the digital zoom of the A2 works? Does it do interpolation like the last generation of prosumers?

Or does it employ cropping? Like suppose i shoot at 3mp, can i use digital zoom to crop from the 8mp image, without interpolation?

My suggestion is not to use the digital zoom :nono: . Doesn't really have much benefit...If you really need to crop, do it in PS so that the original image quality is retained...

Actually I felt there's some value in the digital zoom, if in fact it does do cropping and not interpolation. THen there's not much image quality difference between digital zooming and cropping in PS. Since both employ cropping(assuming A2 does that). Assuming you only want say a 3-4mp image.

And advantages of zooming while u shoot is that u can see the exact framing as you want it, whereas in PS, you hafta roughly just get an image first...and see how you can crop it later.

Hmm...do let me know if i'm wrong? I dun own an A2 tho.

Well, I suppose (just guessing) that most of the A1ers or A2ers may not really use the digital zoom. That's way KM only put in a 2X. I tend to believe that it would be used for viewing purposes but maybe not for shooting I guess. There should be little harm using the digital zoom if its not for printing purposes. But when you are shooting with digital zoom and try to send it for enlarged print, pictures tend to get a bit pixelated. (Have experimated this with some wedding photographs I took for my friends) That's why a number of shooters have shun away from the digital zoom. You never know when you might want to enlarge a big picture.

I tend to crop in PS coz the image quality is still retained at its optical zoom. I may loose a bit of image area but it can still be "blown up" towards a larger print if I need it later. As you know most of the clubsnappers here are image freaks so just like them, I cannot stand myself taking pictures that are not sharp to my personal liking. I don't really look into whether the image is a 3, 4 or 5 megapixel so long as the composition is there and the image is sharp. But its just perception lah... :sweatsm:
