-not tele enough (spoilted by the fz1)
-no "cheap" underwater housing
-doesn't work with older flash (5400HS, xi flash)

pls share your opinions/observations....

apparently....brands like minolta hv considerable lower types of oem 'parts'.
even e 3rd-party batt is not widely available...and seems to be rather expensive as well.

anyone hv tried any 3rd-party TTL flash on tis thingy already?
wonder how much e original ext. flash cost...

The camera still new, give it a while, sure can find 3rd party battery one.

You can get Metz and probably Sigma flash to work on this camera. The original 5600HS is very ex, can pretty much forget about it.

i think for the batt wise you guys should get the vertical grip and use AA batts.... ;)

6AA batt in a huge vertical grip. I think I'll just spare myself the agony.

Personally I find 6 AA to be a difficult figure to work with.
Extra troublesome to charge etc........ If you carry as much spare batts as me maybe you'll understand..........I typically carry about 4-5 sets of battery, for about that many days of shoot, and need to fully recharge all of them within a windows of no more than 16 hrs...... Of course if third party Li Ion spares are not available at a low price, then this is the only acceptable option.

Also I find the grip too big. Portability is a major concern for me.

yah....considering the size of this nifty little cam...the grip does give it a rather elongated look.

batt grip looks muc 'normal' w the SLR type cam than w such compact.

must be pretty hefty in weight too...so muc easier to reload lithium than AA in a
hurry...

hope to see more compatible accessories soon...

Hiee....

My take on this is that the battery grip has its own purpose and if you need longer battery life then you should get it as its gives the camera the right balance with the flash on too.

I personally use the AA as a spare pack (which i have not got a chance to use as the main battery is enough even for a full 1hr++ "ON" camera) or a simple battery organiser.....For the Flash that i am using....

If you are not using the camera for long hours shoots and portrait orientation + flash....then the Battery grip is just an overkill......for any system (not only the A1).

Yeah ...as some posted noting that the money is better spend on anothe battery.

BTW- elongated or not...the battery grip shape or size does not have any effect on the resulting picture....

Have a fun week ahead!!!

Sulhan

can some one fill me in on this problem as I am looking at getting an A1 ???

yes, i found that the device gets hot after a while... it is not the battery that is hot but the writing to the CF... I believe this should be a CF problem and not an inherrent problem with the camera...

by the way, the heat is mainly concentrated at the grip area...

Hiee all...

Here is what i like in the camera...- Handling with and without grip on is great.
- Canuse my Dynax film camera accessories - flash, cables etc.
- 49mm filters sharable with my 50mm slr lens.
- Macro is great (normally used telemacro) - flexi-magnification great for static macros.
- AF tracking does well for me
- Anti-skae feature is a plus point for camera handling in lower speed
- GREAT battery life
- One hand controllable.....all buttons in a very intuitive manner - almost similar to my dynax 7 film camera (as i use them both at once most of the time)

- Heat wise - seem that users exagerate a little too much....i dont find it any problem....used the cam in the recent boat race....on the camera for one full hour in the hot sun...and nothing boiled...(heat concentrationis due to bad dissipation which is directly influenced by - ambient/surrounding temperature, heat flow rate/surface area..- If you hold the camera at its grip position 100% of the time....then i am not surprised that it will feel a little warm....
A balance and an added advantage when travelling to colde countries...

- Oh Yah!!!....i was using the Hagiwara CF card (V) version - which is based on a MLC(MUlti level memory cell architecture - entry level write/read, higher power consumption, cheaper) and then returned the card to the shop (due to slow/intermittent detection when used with my PCMCIA adapter) and got a Transcend CF card based on a SLC(Single level memory cell architecture - faster right speed, a little higher prices, lower power consumption) - i found that the heat was lower with the SLC card....maybe is my imagination..but i trust my senses....

- Fast one button quick review and customisable manu behaviour for image deletion...

- 15 mins video.....(great to capture short movies)
- Coloration filter great for on the fly WYSIWYG - DPOF - no need editing....
- Low light focus is great to a certain extent...not need to have the red beam...assist lamp.
- Its still a camera

Hiccups so far...- Multi-direction omni button should be improved to give better up/down/left/right....feel...well i know that current configuration is great for flexi focus but for menu scrolling while eyes still on EVF....may some time slip - maybe due to my FAT thumb!!!
- Battery grip would be better if have Manual mode scrolling dials like the VC-7.

regards,
me

hi, anyone tried shooting without CF inside, do you think the camera gets hot? I doubt so right... heat... not a problemo... in the dimage 7 case, it was really the batteries that get hot in prolong usage... but in A1, it is using li-ion which I feel is a major improvement compared with older series...

thks for your personal review sulhan!

heard e price of this wonderbox came down quite abit b'cos of the 300D.

wonder anyone out there who has e latest price for it?

:)
