A1 : Big Problem

I have myself felt and used the A1 and my, it was impressive. However, all i did was simple shots and went through most of its functions and though it was my first time using it, I could navigate through all its controls easily. It definitly feels better than the older G5 which I have used before many times. I was looking at reviews giving good ratings of the A1 but those posts on the cons of the A1 made me feel worried and now I am really worried bout the red streaks appearing at the left side of the pic during high ISO . Other wise, I would have made my purchase already. Now I am left with only two choices, either the A1 or the new and almost ready Sony 828.

Oh, They have one. Its in Fotress Electronics shop in Hong Kong. At Tsim Sha Tsui Kowloon. Near Peninsular hotel.

But I did not try it. I was lagging on to the A1 for 15 min so dared not ask for more since i was only looking around.

I've tried the 828 (1-2 mins only ) in the exhibition today..

The whole camera felt very electronic.. including the zoom, may be I too traditional already.. :bsmilie:

Hi fevernova,

Please note that 828 might have some problem too then you might need to look into A2 or 929.

So, my advice is work on your budget, handling of the camera (features, size and weight) and your main interest (micro, sport, landscape, people, outdoor, multi-purpose, etc...) and decide on one as you need it now (and at least 1-2 years of usage).

BTW, I am enjoying my A1 and the handling, features and function it provided me, it is a well thought multi purpose camera.

i m sure many feels e same as u when they are putting in the $$ for it.
There will be "+" and e fair share of "-", the A1 or the the 828 inclusive.
if you cant live w some of the inherent problems tt comes with it :
like noise at high iso, picture resolution issues etc., then perhaps these are not the cams for u.
But if you think the great "feel" and "tons of features/capabilities" that comes with these cams are a huge plus for u to overlook the other issues.
"Just Do It", must follow e :heart: sometimes.

and yet not be able to get any dc.

Anyway, thanks for all the info from you guys. I have just bought my A1 and its next to me in my room. I bought it at the SUNTEC fair. Do you guys think that it is wise to invest in a filter in order to protect the camera lens? Also, how much does one cost?

Yes you should get a UV filter to protect your lens. I bought it from CP at 8 bucks. Worthwhile investment but do get a "coated" one as it is double coated instead of the normal single side ones which costs almost the same price. You can approach florence at CP for help if you need to figure out where they store them. I bought the Hoya ones.

I have also recently order a close-up +4 from them and they have just stocked up the 49mm filters. This is a great opportunity as the 49mm are not always around when you need them.

yes - go get a B+W MRC. expensive, but damned easy to clean.

a filter is MUCH cheaper than replacing/repairing the main lens.
