A very interesting read : B&H Photo Video "fraud"

The lesson to learn is go down to the shop, open the box and check out the goods before you hand over your cold hard cash.

Luckily it's easy to do that in Singapore!

I never thought of this as a possibility. The fraud could have happenned anywhere, but it is impossible to prove who committed it. I should try opening my parcels at the post office in front of the staff, or in front of the delivery person in future.

Lessons learnt:

1. Always pay with a credit card when buying online. That way you would have some recourse if the merchant fails to deliver or resolve the problem.
2. Always open the package before signing the delivery. You never know what you would get in the box.
3. Don't trust everything you read on the net. That post was probably a scam to defame B&H or UPS.

But of course.

This is the part that gets interesting. Do you think that you are signing for the items to be delivered OR the parcel to be delivered? Also, do you think that the delivery person would even allow you to open up a parcel to have the items inspected since you have not signed for them?

Not the parcel but the content. It is your right to open the parcel before the signing for the goods. Once the package is signed, recourse may be difficult if the shipper refuses to file a claim for loss or damage. In this case, your credit card company is the only party who can protect you as they would not release the funds until you have paid them.

how many people actually open the box before signing? it's like asking the pizza hut man to show me the pizza by opening each box before you pay. :) haha

Difference is the amount of money involved, if it is SGD 25 item, then no one would likely steal it, but if the parcel is valued at SGD 1000 or more, then that rings a bell with the delivery person......you better check it, cause if you don't, no recourse at the CC bank since you signed it off as received in good order.....

It seems that the other guys in the dpreview forum think that the person that made the complaint that B&H is a fraud is a fraud himself. Reading further down the dpreview posts, there were some

It seems that the other guys in the dpreview forum think something is wrong with the guy that complained, that he is out to smear B&H or something..

Read further down the post, quite interesting.

Read from somewhere else that the serial number is not correct? But the point here is not about the suggested fraud by B&H or UPS or the buyer or whoever, but of receiving an empty parcel, or a parcel with something else. What recourse will there be for the buyer?

Having an expensive item send to you or to someone else oversea is just like sending cash by mail. So, once lost, who to blame? Sometime you are just the so-call "lucky" one who got pick by the bad guy. Unless machine replace human, the word GREED will be there to stay on handling expensive item. ;)
