Next, Chusenji Lake...

hi i m intending to go there in 3 wks time , is one day enough to cover nikko and the Chusenji Lake area ?

My friend showed me a similar same shot!! :) Is the place pretty big? He mentioned to me that a day is barely enough to fully enjoy Nikko..

Attractions in Nikko can be classified into 2 main categories: Nature and Heritage. Nature refers to Kegon Falls and Chusenji Lake area. Heritage attractions include mainly the Toshogu Shrine and other smaller shrines. Ideally, 2 days are more comfortable to cover all the attractions. Our trip was rather short hence we focused mainly on the nature attractions.

More more, more from tokyo

thanks for the info , will probably try to spend one whole day and see how much i can cover .. i m more interested in the world heritage building . i would assume that those building r accessible from the train station ?

The shrines are just a short bus ride away (too far for walking though...)

[31.03.09] It was already late noon after our Kegon Falls visit. We did a simple lunch and some quick shopping before heading to the famous Chusenji Lake...

Stay tuned for Chusenji Lake!

[31.03.09] Finally reaching the Chusenji Lake... The chilling wind made the beautiful and serene lake even colder...

Which of the 2 lake photos (#61 & #62) above is nicer??

To be continued...

Thanks for dropping by my thread and hope you've enjoyed Nikko as much as we did so far :)

[31.03.09] After spending a few good hours at the Chusenji Lake area, we decided to visit the Toshogu Shrine although knowing that it could have been closed for visiting... we just have to try our luck since we were already in Nikko!

[31.03.09] As expected, Toshogu Shrine was closed for visiting by the time we reached there. However, it was nice to just walk around the huge front yard of the shrine and take photos of the giant Torii and the Five Storied Pagoda, which is a major landmark of the Toshogu shrine.

Wonderful shots you have there, especially the ones of the waterfall.
Ahh, Japan. My dream holiday destination.

Japan is indeed a unique country to visit!

[31.03.09] Japanese workers usually end their day after 9pm and it is common to find the streets still busy near midnight. Many restaurants operate till 3am so no worries about supper!

Love the dynamism in #67, and sense of scale in #73. Real grand.

Orangedial, love the series so far, especially the landscape/wide angle pics. What lenses did you bring with you to Japan, and which were the ones that were the most used?

Am asking because Japan's on the trip agenda for my wife and i for our next year anniversary heh heh, and need a sense of what equipment people have found more useful there in different situations. Seems the ultrawide is a must, though..

Thanks in advance for your response :)

Hey John, thanks for enjoying the pics! I used an FF cam and all the shots were taken with my 20mm prime and 28-105 zoom. While the zoom was extremely useful, the 20mm prime proved to be ideal for both landscape and street candids :)
