Thanks for the info. Perhaps those who cited that the Banded Kraits are rare have not been looking in the waters. :)

Regret to hear about what has happended to the marine biologist. Hope she is fine now and have not given up on her research.

Got Banded Krait (BK) and Banded Sea Krait (BSK). I think the BSK (with the yellow lip) is much more commonly seen both near the water's edge and while diving. Banded Krait is more land-based. The colour is a bit different. BK looks more yellowish while the BSK is more bluish-white and has the tell-tale yellow lip.

The Yellow-lipped Sea Krait (Banded Sea Krait) has the paddle-shaped tail tip, which the Banded Krait lacks. This is probably because the former has a more aquatic habit and the tail shape allows it to swim more efficiently in the open sea.
