hi,

1st of all, I must acknowledge I'm new to digital photography and no offence to anyone here in forum doing parallel imports.

I'm a bit undecided, thus come to this forum for advise. :embrass:

Intention : to get another memory card, 512mb or 1 gb (transcend/sandisk/hagiwara)

Dilemma : 1. to get it from shop at sls eg AP, Memory world
or 2. from individuals at forum here (parallel imports maybe)

- to get it from sls is safer cos it has 5 yr warranty but more ex$
- to get from individuals is cheaper by $50-$100, but no warranty
- cf cards also seldom spoilt, so why need the 5 yr warranty

I believe many of you here has made such decisions before. Can you pen down your advise pls.

Thank you. :p

:)

for reliable brands, it should be ok to get parallel import because the risk is lower.... if the manufacturer is doubtful/new, it may be better to get from shops with full warranty.

for brands eg transcend, hagiwara or sandisk, is it ok to get parallel imports.

btw, is there such things that some cards are "minor rejects", thus able to get at lower prices.
(once again, pls no offence to anyone) :)

my advice, get it from sls.

having a warranty is always good, provides a safety blanket if anything goes wrong.

i've always believed in paying a little extra for that extra precaution, pays to be safe yah?

:)

Sorry to say this, but not every shop in SLS is safe to purchase from. Of course if you are talking about distributor like MemoryWorld (for Transcend) then it is a different story. Individuals do sell value products with warranty. I got my 1GB Transcend 2nd hand here with warranty from MemoryWorld at a reasonably good price. CF cards do spoil easily if you do not know how to use them. I read of people complaining about reliability of Transcend, Hagiwara, Sandisk for easy failure. But those are other countries. 1 year, 5 years or no warranty, which one do you choose? :)

yeah yeah.. memoryworld!

good day everyone !

actually I'm considering going to memory world. but then an offer comes along that lower by ~$80. This is attarctive as I'm still a student.

But no warranty makes me shake up a bit wondering why no warranty and if it's genuine and good product.

that puts me in a dilemma.

more opinions welcomed ! :p

:)

me normally get from AP, sometimes mem. world.

anyone has got cards from parallel imports recently, any problems ?

:what:

I suppose you are talking about the 512MB 45x Transcend offer? I think the $80 is a must somemore you are a student. You never know when it fails on you if you do not have the warranty to back your pocket up. If it is a camera, maybe you can still repair it for a fee (if the manfacturer allows), but not a memory card. Try looking for 2nd hand ones. Photography is expensive to many people.

So where is a good place to buy CF card??

I not only chiong....I'll try to buy at least 5 or more...unbelievable offer if it is 80 bucks.....nice dream...but then...still a dream...

Just last Friday, I brought a 1GB Sandisk ultra 2 CF card from Cathay Photo for $540.00. It may be a bit expensive but gives life time warranty despite it was made in China! The same 1GB Hagiwara will cost about $460 but with a year warranty or 3 years forgotten which ... And that 1GB Lexar 40X will cost $470 at AP.

Prior to this, I got 512MB Transcend 30x and Lexar 256MB 24x. They served me very well and got no problems with it. I heard the latest Trescend card 45x got some problem and dare not invest in it for the 1GB capacity.

Now with the lastest 30GB Flashtrax with me, I no longer needs to buy more CF cards. I can download into the Flashtrax and view the images from the LCD, further it can play AVI video files as well as MP3 music! Cost me $927 but is handy when you are travelling and got no time to download into your computer.

I guess you must be careful to choose which CF card to purchase and whether it comes with warranty, to me warranty is important as you wouldn't know when the card will failed.

I got a friend who purchased the same brand of DC togather with me, and now her camera was in the repair shop due to CCD failed and unable to autofocus. So be careful .... and choose wisely.
