A new K-X owner needs some advise here.

Thanks alot gummy & ranchy... Can't wait to try it out this mth end.......

Welcome!

I don't shoot RAW or use PS, ...

Bro, you're definitely missing out on a lot if you're not shooting RAW.
Besides with all the high end lenses that you've got, it does seem like a waste if you're not taking advantage of the superior results that can be extracted from a RAW file.
I think you need to be assimilated into the RAW collective... resistance is futile. :bsmilie:

Adobe Photoshop CS2 does support PEF files except that since the K-x is newer than the software, the metadata embedded in K-x PEF RAW files can't be read.

If you wish to use PEF, the solution is to download the Adobe DNG Converter 5.7 from the Adobe website.
It is a free utility that converts files from more than 275 cameras to DNG, enables you to easily convert camera-specific raw files to a more universal DNG raw file.

If you are a Mac user, download from here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4678

If you are a Windows user, download from here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4679

You can also use the software that comes with the camera to open the file and convert it to another format but the software is pretty basic. I would not recommend this approach as it defeats the purpose of shooting RAW files in the first place.

Alternatively you can set your K-x to shoot the DNG format directly. Since that is Adobe's open standard file format, any version of Photoshop will be able to open it.

Good Stuff...
But very SLOW...
Its like everytime I load my pictures into my computer I have to convert it... SLOW...

Any faster reccomendations?

Any faster reccomendations?

- Get a faster computer
- Use a fast SD card (Sandisk Extreme)
- Upgrade to Photoshop CS5
- Shoot in DNG and not PEF

BTW I don't find it particularly slow to convert to DNG from PEF on my Mac.

I think perhaps the problem lies with my computer.
Because I'm using a Netbook not to convert PEF to DNG. HAHAS.

I'm using Sandisk Ultra ll.
Not good enough for a K-X?

Ha ha,
real honest answer is that I am not a high end photographer. I only see myself as the 75/100 mark guy (ie. don't fail can already :D ).

Since you are using a netbook, shoot in DNG(as pointed out by Creampuff), then u skip one process of converting from PEF to DNG. :bsmilie:
If not JPEG.. even faster... :D
Ur Sandisk Ultra II is good enough bah..

Netbook? for RAW
I think you like pins/needles and self flagellation :D

I do have a netbook running Picasa (which opens up PEF and DNG). Decent enough running, but it will pause for some actions like sharpen and 1:1 viewing. So you might want to try that.
My final solution was a new Quad core 4G RAM PC to take away all the pain. Worth consideration as its only $700.

Wow, how you do that!! That's so fun and cool..;p

Well, if you haven't figured it out from that link yet, this is what you do:
(1) Go to http://www.lmgtfy.com/
(2) Type in what you want to search and click the search button
(3) The webpage will generate a URL link for you in the box below the search button. Cut and paste that URL.

Have fun.;)

I do have another laptop & desktop which runs on higher rams...
But I used the netbook more often on my bed always.

Will try to load the pictures on to my desktop later. LOLS

Cos its taking TOO SLOW...

And now they keep giving me this Data Execution Prevention error message which is pissing me off!!!

I'm looking at the various Adobe suites/bundles and wondering what to get. I only need image editing and video editing, nothing else.

They have a very nice bundling of Photoshop Elements 8 and Premiere Elements 8. But I'm looking at all the fancy features in the new Premiere Pro and PS (like content aware) and thinking that they'd be nice to play with. But there's no bundle for these 2. And buying separate is gonna cost so much more than the Elements bundle. Think I may end up with just the Elements bundle. haiz.

TS have you tried changing your K-X to record in DNG format?

Ive seen so many ppl say that but neveer see you try

If you see DEP error message, you only have 2 choices... Either you turn off DEP for that new pgm, or you delete that new pgm... :)

But when I used the Adobe Converter for the first few times, I did not get the DEP error message.
Only after using it a few times then the error MSG keep popping up.

Btw, how to off the DEP for the new program ahs? :p
Can't seem to find it.

Control panel ==> System ==> Advanced ==> Performance ==> Data Execution Prevention ==> Add the new pgm that is causing DEP error msg

How to change to DNG format?

Settings to change file formats are only jpeg, raw, raw+ ....

Theres a "raw file format" under list number "3".
Can choose btw PEF or DNG.
DNG files are slightly larger, but its really minimal, I used DNG too.
