A new Canon 50mm F1.8 STM lens is announced today.

Funan have stock liao. Hooted one at $160 cash

As usual, Singapore is more expensive. Wait till the dust settled down, just like the EF-S 24mm f2.8 STM. Now can buy at $180 compared to the initial launched price at more than $200.

how is the image quality compared to the older one?

Most likely will get one.

The only one preventing me from getting 50mm f1.8 is the 5 aperture blades. Now that they have 7, rounded aperture blades.. I'm happy :)

Yea. For me was that too plus the build. This new 50mm's build feels much better

I think your preferred funan shops should have stock now. TKfoto stock came in on friday late afternoon.

Thanks octarine...guess its risky to buy from amazon
No, it's not risky at all. Just make sure that you get it from Amazon and not from some third party listed under Amazon. Read the fine print for returning something 'dead on arrival'.
For everything (issues later) Canon Singapore Service Center will help you, with parts and labour being chargeable.
Warranty is a betting game. The difference is that the buyer has to pay the wager upfront whereas the seller / service center only pays once the defect occurs.
And: it doesn't matter where something is sold, the QC of the manufacturer is the same. So there is no reason assume that items sold in country A are more likely to fail then items sold in country B.

It would be nice to see some of our members posting some photos with this lens especially photos of the same object taken with old and new versions of the lens to see differences.

Some consider the lack of warranty assurance in the first year as risky... :bsmilie:

In this particular case, there is no reason to buy from Amazon. US$125 without shipping fee is already more than the price in Singapore.

Precisely, why buy from overseas when it is cheaper to buy in Singapore? Best of all, it comes with 15 months warranty.

So far, the cheapest quote I got is $156.

Just get the new 50mm f1.8 STM . I m happy with it

My friend initially wanted to get one from personal classified which was going for 130-150. Went down to funan today and pick one up for 155 brand new with full warranty.

Anyone tried this with EOS M2 or M3? Is the AF faster?
