A mountain tortoise's stroll from Riverside Pt to Merlion Park

Took the walk from Riverside Point to Merlion Park first time in 10 years. Got to know how happening the place is. Was wowing at everything, trying to put them into my shopping bag. So ended up with a lot of crap, only had these few slightly more presentable ones for sharing. No composition to boast about, all copy-cat style, just wish I had not made huge mistakes in exposures.

Tks. I used 2 lenses that evening. For those with the tall buildings, I used Sigma's UWA 12-24. For others, I used Tokina 28-70. All the shots were taken with f8, exposure ranging from 1 to 15 sec. Some photos were combined with several shots of different exposures.

Were you there last Saturday evening ? If you were, I was probably one of the many rude ones who just walked passed the photographer trying to take a shot of 6514 in your Flickr ;p

Tks. The dust could hv got in when I changed lens. I wasn't careful enough. Shall have that cloned and most importantly, the sensor cleaned before the next session :)

Very nice & sharp. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Very nice and sharp pics! I went to the same places yesterday night, but i was using AF and the pics didn't turn out quite as what i wanted. Will be walking around again soon!

Tks. hmm, actually I was using AF for most of the shots less those where lighting was tricky. There is still much to improve in mine too. Were yours out of focus or under/over exposed kind of thing ?

I would think mine were overexposed.. Still trying to learn too. took some shots from my window using MF without IS yest night, turned out quite ok.

I may be wrong but I think AF or not will only affect the focusing but not the metering which will result in the accuracy of exposure. Similarly for IS. But well, I am not a Canon user so perhaps there is something peculiar in that system. Just shoot more and experiment with it :)

I don't really see too much problem with the exposure (the second was overexposed a bit). Maybe a bit more contrast or increasing blacks in processing to give them a bit more pop. I see some clouds which makes the sky brighter (reflecting city lights) so it won't be as black as on a clear night. Very nice series.

If you are having exposure problems, check you shots as you are shooting them and if you don't know how, get your manual and learn about using EV compensation. That is usually a button with a +/- in it. This lets you adjust the exposure to darker (-) or lighter (+). Should work in most modes (I like to use "A" for aperature priority) except manual exposure. Learning this can help with most difficult exposure situations. Manual or autofocus should not matter (though some lenses can have troubles focusing in low light situations).
Keep up the good work!
