A Good Telephoto Lens for Canon 7D?

rule of thumb for non is lenses for me is 50mm i ll set it 1/50sec. if 200mm then it ll be 1/200mm. i feel thats a safe one for me. everyone has a diff style as their bodies r diff. the subject u shoot also counts... if u shoot a hot model also u ll tremble more... hehe... lame.

anyway the IS is a great tool. depends on the lens some can even bring the shutter speed down by 4 stops! thats a lot of diff. u ll find that u have more keeper's shot n IS helps in low light as well, indirectly. but if the subject is a moving subject then stil it ll b blur.

right. that makes a lot of sense actually. i found that i can still hold a kg lens up steady until 1/40. slower than that and i'll epic fa1L big big :bsmilie: but okay, i get what ure trying to say with the IS stops, basically u get what u pay. i'll see if where my budget leads me then. thnx~

why no body talk about 100-400mm?

100~400mm is no doubt a good lens but unless he is into birds and sports like a football field kind of range.

And hey, if you are into birding and you do own one 70-200 already, just add a teleconverter...save some money for some other stuff.

Because the 7D is quite picky on the glass it's given to work with, the 70-200 /2.8 IS (or non IS) is pretty much the only logical choice. The others may be a tad risky, IMO.

Hi,

I have seen 300m F4 Is doing very good shot too.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Very very helpful. I am glad I posted this question on this forum. I think I will settle for the Canon 70-200mm f/4 non IS because of budget. I guess for a L lens, it value for money.

Secondly the 135f/2 or the 100 f/2 will give very good bokehs but the zoom is more versatile. There will be times when I don't have the luxury of space for movement.

Thirdly the Sigma 70 -200 f/2.8 is very tempting but cost more than the Canon 70-200 f/4 and I read that it has compatibility issues with the Canon 7d because of 7d new AF system.

Fourthly for indoor shots I can always use the tripod or monopod with flash and Canon 7d has high ISO count so IS not an issue though very good to have but the price difference is staggering. For the difference I would rather settle for the Canon f/4 non IS and I can get another Canon 85 mm for protrait and low light work.

Lastly the Canon is proven, widely used, can be used for FF and has better resale value.

Once again thanks everyone.
