for budget of 1.5k, canon 550D is an excellent candidate if u want a canon. There are so many cameras in this price range, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. In the end you may end up puzzled which one to choose.

Goodness, I didn't know PnS cameras can change lenses.

all camera can change lens... only question is after changing lens, can the camera be still in useable condition..

i took apart my ancient nikon pns 2MP before.. changed out the lens... but found out that my 80-200 nikon ancient lens from the early 90's dont fit it... this is also called changing lens...

Hi, i am planning to get a DSLR recently and i would lik to ask for advice on what would be a good set-up for me to start.

My budget is around 1.5k and i prefer new camera. Preferred brand will be canon, but still quite open about it.

if u got nothing to being with... and your budget.. u can get either nikon D90, or canon 50D... both around your budget, with nikon the newer model...

Wrong, this retailer I trust, coz he comes highly recommended and with good reasons. I know I won't get the lowest price, but he is one I'm willing to listen to. :bsmilie:

If you are just starting out, and have no legacy lenses or accesories, you should really go with the camera which feels best to you. Any of the major systems nowadays are comprehensive and good enough, it's a matter of which one you like more.

Of course, the two major brands Nikon and Canon will have more active 2nd hand trading markets, which may or may not be a factor for you as well.....

I second that. A good camera is one which you can afford and can shot pictures with lol. Sometimes without personal preferences , its like asking which girl/guy is a good life partner.

It doesnt matter what other people say , for beginners , any gear is a good gear . Every brand has options to upgrade to higher end systems and higher range lenses.

For some that qoute the cost factor , personally I dont think photography is a cheap hobby la. There isnt significant cost savings at the end of the day. Maybe 100-200 bucks for every 2-3k spent variance amongst different brands ?

Some sell you cheap bodies , but have expensive lenses , some sell you cheap lenses , but give you not so value for money bodies. End of the day , there will be compromises between , features , price and upgrading scaleability =)

Ya. human eyes also can change lens. People have operation to take out old cornea and put in a new synthetic one. Duh!

Well, not 100%, but in greater percentage. I've also learned not to trust anyone with a total 100%... coz no human being is perfect. But I take your advice to heart, sometimes it's good to step back a bit before you take that a leap of faith...

But to answer the original question. 1.5K can cover a multitude of camera options.. Look at all that has offered suggestions here.. But before jumping into the purchase, do factor in the costs of filters (for your lens protection), what's a good Storage Media to buy, a Dry Box, Tripod, or shutter release / flash (if you do need them). Coz if you never consider them besides just the cam body and lens, you will end up spending more tha 1.5K. Maybe towards 1.7 or 1.8K or maybe more. If you want to cover all the accessories with the 1.5K, then that would put you into a lower priced range of cameras...

To TS: Does your budget include purchase of accessories? I bought a 50D and EF28-135mm lens recently (no kit lens) and that cost me about $2,100. On top of that, a dry cabinet and other miscellaneous accessories like a filter, spare battery, memory cards and stuff added a few hundred more dollars to my purchase. My point is, when you get a DSLR, there are a lot of other purchases that you must make along with it, so it will help if you specify what your stated budget is intended to pay for, e.g. just a body and lens, or DSLR and accessories.

Oh and the 1000D is also sufficiently capable. My friend's boyfriend won some prize after he submitted a photo to a contest which he shot on his 1000D with the kit lens. Again, it depends on what you want, and what you're comfortable with. When you're starting out, the limiting factor is more likely to be the user's expertise than the capability of his/her equipment.

To mods: I think a sticky should be created to address such repeated threads. Either have a general guide to entry-level DSLR systems with content contributed by the experienced people in this forum so that people don't start new threads asking the same old questions, or state a list of things that TS should specify if they're looking for individual-specific answers, such as budget, type of photography they intend to shoot, whether they have legacy equipment, etc. I think this will help those who really can't find answers to their individual needs.

Have u check the performance of the K-x?
K-x noise is considered to be good among other cameras in the same class.

You'll get used to the K-x's shutter after you use it for a while.BD/HN/Courts don't carry K-x.Try places like SLRR/AP/John/CP/OP for stocks

BTW,what is 'the motor really that powerful'?Don't quite get that question
