 those are mighty high demands. Let's put AV & FW aside.
Garion's rig is almost the same as Errz. But for today's standards, the updated rig would be:
Intel QX6600
Gigabyte P35-DS3R
2GB-4GB DDR 800 rams (CL4 or CL5) latter being more expensive
HDD SATA cage to hold 4 HDD or 5 HDD in 2x 5.25 slot (kind of hard to use back PATA as newer mainboards are all SATA, and PATA is provided only for legacy CDROM/Writers)
Graphics (again up to you.... )
Then comes the headache with TV card:
For TV i'd go for WinTV by hauppage. Go for at least the one with hardware acceleration. If suay suay .. you opt for one without it ... its going to eat up CPU cycles (LR & CS3 problems slowing down again)
PSU ... anything but iCute/Antec. Seasonic / Silverstone would be good.
If you're behind a NAT router at home - no need firewall. Only AV.
Wah lao... then all my pata hdd all liao.
Is there an option to use the PATA for HDDs and link the CD/DVD drives externally?
WinTV card.. I hav liao. Good enuf and no need to tax the system more.
Need advice on Graphics... cannot afford 8800... but tinkin of 8600 how's tat for 2D intensive multi-tasks? (all my programs are still eating up 2D processing cycles)
Firewall not an issue so far... I've check my tasks manager... mostly processor is idle.. so it means lack of RAM or graphic bottle neck.
