7D6N Myanmar Discovery Photography Tour (Part 3)

Gentlemen, looks like I am the first one in the team to acquire the new Hyperdrive UDMA. I used back my 500gb HDD and just bought the enclosure. Hurray!!

TKS !! ;) ah, so that's one more new feature. very useful feature indeed.

limwhow: Wah, so fast !. Sure or not about the stock situation ? Don't want to go down only to discover not enough stock.

Edit: I called memory World Funan and confirm they are transferring stock from Sim Lim for tommorrow.

How much does the item cost? For one with the HDD and the one with enclosure only? Does it use a normal PC 2.5" or 3.5" HDD? Or a special proprietary model?

limwhow: Since you are the first and only one to have actually bought the item, you are in the best position to provide answers.

I think they have 2 models. One older, smaller (2.2") screen, 1 GB/min transfer rate..that's at around $300 with HDD (what capacity I can't remember).

The newer model, UDMA, has 3.2" screen, 2 GB/min transfer rate and the battery lasts 2x longer. There is also a new incremental backup feature. Costs $339 w gst wo HDD.

Both use normal 2.5" HDD..the newer model uses SATA HDD and has no limit on capacity.

I checked, a 7200 rpm 2.5" 500 GB HDD costs around $100-110...the 5400 rpm cost lesser.

can P5000 do recovery ?

Oh yes, as for the double R-strap connector item, I am not surprised TK said the new version doesn't have/need it. They are businessmen after all.

According to the video on the Blackrapid site, the earlier batches did not have the connector. Following client feedback, they included it in the new batches and also mailed the connector to customers who purchased through their web site.

If TK or CP had confirmed they are holding old stock and customers will not receive the connector, they would miss out on potential sales.

I'd probably ask at TK or OP if they stock the connector separately. Else, it would be an online purchase. My one swings too much although I did get used to it after a few days.

did see that sold separately on blackrapid's website...:dunno:
what is it used for ? i am still clueless :)

Dunno. But if you are transferring files to the hyperdrive and then reusing the CF cards, it is not really a backup right?

quite true in that sense...for people who re-use the memory cards on the trip...but for me, i hv over 100 GB of memory cards...so it will really be a backup...

come to think of it, a recovery function will not be that essential afterall, since i can also recover after i return from the trip...

hmmm, so now where do i spend my ang bao money ?:bsmilie:

edit: one solution wld be to hv 2 hdd

It clips the two straps behind your back, so that both cameras doesn't swing excessively. The normal R-strap crosses your torso, so there is already the in-built stability. But the double R-strap doesn't - it just hangs from the shoulder - so it needs something to stabilise it.

You better post some pictures hor. Else this thread is closed for OT and we are banned from opening part IV. :bsmilie:
