7D shutter count

I see. So the main thing is TS must check his actual shutter count and not jump to conclusion too early. Any possibility for his 7D to start count at 9k?

And flipfreak will make our TS freak out :bsmilie:

i think the possibility of having a starting shutter count of 9k is not high... if it's a test set, 9k shutter count could show visible signs of being tested...

should be the CF card issue...

Hi,
when I bought my 7D, the gentleman at MS put in a third party battery for me to check the camera(no memory card in the camera). He did not put in the original Canon battery because it was not charge. When he power on the camera, the shutter count was 4. I asked him," isn't it supposed to be zero?"
The he explained "oh, it because of the low battery power"
With a little blind faith I paid up and left.

When I got home the first thing was to charge the battery.
When I put the original canon battery into the slot, behold! The shutter count was back to Zero!
I don't know the reason, but I saw this with my own eyes.
So, could this be happening to you?

Hi, I brought a new a new 7D at Cathay photo on sat. Then when i go home and take some photos, i realise that the photo count starts from 9k plus. When i buy it the person use a new memory card to test it therefore can strike out the chance the cam is using the other card's number. So can i go back to Cathay Photo to ask for a change or isit suppose to starts with 9 plus?

Bro, The counter reset every time u remove the battery :bsmilie:.

hmm... think i gonna restart the count and start from 0000 again hahas. i will put faith that it is the older card that he use to show other customer before showing me....

What counter resets? The shutter count? Very unlikely, it's stored in some internal memory, well protected to avoid any manipulation.

should be the battery shutter count.

duh, astro don't work with 7D and opanda is only nikon, i think...

i got my 5dm2 from parisilk last week, came sealed with uncharged battery. took some shots over the weekend.

i just did a check on battery shutter count and it says 88. then i check with astrojargon and the count is 88 also.

so i must have got one that was not used for testing:sweat:

To check shutter count, I take a photo, then I open the photo using free Opanda IEXIF Viewer (http://www.opanda.com/en/download/index.html) to check shutter count. Not sure if this will work with Canon, but I remember it works.

I installed it already and I tried uploading a photo to check for my shutter count. May I know under which area is the shutter count located?. Thanks.

ha... bro, you are right. the count does reset... My bad... :sweatsm:

That also mean my camera has actual shutter count even before i bought it.

battery shutter count is always reset when you charge but the inherent shutter count remains. my previous 5d was showing incremental shutter counts whenever i check with astrojargon.

one way of making sure you get an untested set will be the selaing on the box and check out the warranty card also, the warranty registration number (start with CC) will tell you when the set leave canon wh or factory, eg CC1003xxxxxxxx indicated march 2010.

that is important because i ever got a "new lens" that was sitting on the shelf for one year.

A few is fine, the QA QC also need to test the camera mah. But like the one TS have 9000 is really a course for alarm.

sooner of later we will be asking what is the battery charge count.... (no. of time the batt been charge)

Haha nice one. And and, number of times we turn our camera on and off.

Do not quote me but i heard that 7D video mode increases the shutter count too..

Do not know if its at the extreme end where if you are shooting at 30fps, every second the SC increases by 30 or not.....

Anyone can clarify?

Yes, shutter opens so that light can fall on the sensor. At the end of recording shutter closes = one full cycle.

See above and use common sense. Otherwise 150k shutter counts would equal to 83 minutes video at 30fps ... :sweatsm:

Mine is CC1007 means 2010 July? I bought in from SLRR. Not sure whether it is new but then got the new smell. They told me they got no demo set when I asked them whether it is new or not.
