The first three letters states that it is a EF-S lens, so silver ring.

Sorry to TS... but I'll OT abit here... don't want to start a new thread. :embrass:

Was surfing around and ended up at one of the many Canon Preview/Review site... while looking at the photos of 7D with the new Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens... I notice something strange  It has a SILVER Ring instead of the usual 'Broken' Golden Band that is a sign that this Lens is using USM Motor.

Anyone knows the reason WHY is that so ??

I expect the initial street price to be $2375-$2400, with initial gouging to bring it up to $2450-$2500. This is just barely undercutting the D300s price.

The 18-135 and 15-85 are quite costly, seems to be ~$480 and $1000 respectively in kit package.
(cash prices of course).

I guess one question that pops in some heads at the moment is whether shops now accept pre-orders, and for how much. D

:Later,

Thank you for the information.
Can upgrade my 400D to 7D now..

I won't be upgrading. Just getting another camera so that one of them can be the back-up. :bsmilie:

yes, very interested to know if any shop is getting pre-orders. ;p

Looks like its time to bid farewell to my 400D.

Wonder if the battery grips will be available at the same time too.

My old EF-S 60mm Macro has 'Broken' Golden Ring..... My EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM also have 'Broken' Golden Ring.... so does the EF-S 10-22mm and EF-S 17-85mm... all have 'Broken' Golden Ring.

Could you again explain WHY..... EF-S automatically gets a SILVER Ring ??

the golden ring is supposed representation for USM..? the words 'ultrasonic' is printed together with this golden ring..
the silver ring is supposed representation for EF-S..?

i did notice that they seem to have 'squeezed' all the words like Image Stabiliser, Ultrasonic onto a very small area on this new lens..

From the above link I realized Canon SG's press release got typo error...
"In addition, Canon announced two new lenses that perfectly complement the style and performance of its new APS-C sensor camera – the Canon EOS 7D. The EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is a high quality standard zoom offering a flexible 24-136mm (35mm equivalent) range and image stabilisation, while the EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM covers a expansive 29-216mm (35mm equivalent) range with a minimum focus distance of 0.45m. With these additions to Canon’s extensive arsenal of lenses, photographers can now choose from an even wider range of high quality image-stabilised lenses."

Maybe we can see it in action during the race for Canon to showcase the 8fps and new AF system.

CANON Singapore's partnership with Brawn GP for the SingTel Singapore Grand Prix must have made the company trigger-happy - it has launched an avalanche of 34 products this week.
