72mm filters - where and how much?

can anyone gimme a rough guide on where i can buy these? i guess it's the usual AP or CP?

and how much?

i need a UV one and a (circular??) polariser. nothing to fancy or expensive. just a newbie here starting out, dun wanna spend that much yet.

or else anyone has second hand that they wanna sell?

jOhO, dun mind if I piggy-back on your thread on 72mm filters.

Can anyone advise on what kind of neutral density filters (72mm) are good for general shooting? 4X? 2X?

Also, how much do these ND filters cost?

For me, currently I have a 72mm Tokina UV filter which is always on my Canon 28-135 as a protection. Can't remember how much I paid for it liao. I also have a Hoya Circular Polariser which I bought from the now-closed-down Fotoguide.

Call up CP for a phone quote lor..
72mm filters don't come cheap.

TCW is The Camera Workshop at Peninsular Shopping Centre.

NDX4 will be good to start out with.
And Closeup filters reduce your minimum focusing distance so as to be closer to the subject that you'll want to take.

Hi, I have asked around and found that $42 is a reasonable price for a multi-coated 72mm UV. Even if I am duped, that's nothing I can do. Just want to provide you with some info that's all.

Anyway, I think the guy at TCW is pretty honest and gives good service. I will buy all my filters and acessories from them next time, just as I used to patronise fotoguide only when they were around.

oh wat i meant was, that ur filter is a high-end one, that's why it cost 42 bux, not that u got jipped or anything. i wouldn't have the slightest clue!!

but i'm thinking if i were to say i'd wanna get a cheaper "not so high quality" one u'd advice me not to? ;p

yups, visited there only once so far but it seems good. + lots of filters and accessories there too!

Why you wanna save on the UV after you paid so much for the lens? Say you bought a 1k lens and put on a $10 UV, your images will only be as good as the $10 UV. Then why bother buy a 1k lens? The UV will be on your lens all the time, so might as well get a gd one.

yups, better to get at least a single-coated one and of a better brand. Hoya is quite good and value for $...there are better ones out there though..but costs a bomb..

eheh i totally get wat u mean, but i'm not using an SLR. using a cp5700 and got (or getting) an adaptor to fit 72mm filters. and i'm kinda on a tight budget and in a rush kinda (so can't save) and i need to fly off to australia in 9 days!! ahhaha i guess i just wanted to get something "cheap" first then see how if/when i upgrade to dSLR.

but yes u have a very valid point. imight just COUGH it up and get the "good stuff" can u see the blood yet?

Think I paid between $50 to $60.

The coating is more likely to reduce flare and internal reflections.
If you are in a tight budget, perhaps can get the single-coated one if the price difference is too great for u. But at least try to get a single-coated one.
