70-300 DO IS vs. 70-200 IS + 1.4x

Here is an interesting post in Fred Miranda from a guy who compared his new 70-300 DO IS with a 70-200 IS with a 1.4x TC. You can go to his pbase site and compare the pictures yourself, or you could have a look at some 100% crops which I did below.

I won't tell you which shot was done using which lens. Take a look and decide for yourself which is sharper. Both were taken at 280mm, F/5.6 on a sunny day.

another interesting comparison could be with the 100-400 IS which costs slightly more than the 70-300 DO IS....

I had wanted to get the DO lens but in the end got the cheaper 70-200 F4L instead.
