TK in Funan had stock last week when I checked and it is going for $3.35K cash, shop at 6th floor beside lift in Sim Lim is Orient Photo but they only carry grey sets so never check it out.

I don't own any of the lens but here's my 2 cents of thought

F2.8 vs F4 : 2.8 allows you to have double shutter speed to counter handshake vs IS system (though IS might be 2 stop effective?)

F2.8 you can go to F4 but not the other way round so using F4 you would have less choice in ur DOF.

And finally as what others said: weight. If weight isn't an issue then personally I might go for F2.8. As for handshake blur you can train your handling skills to counter it.

If you can get sharp pictures using non-IS lens then maybe you would feel even more proud LOL.

If I were to carry this lens it will be on a mono-pod most of the time ...

F2.8 is always a better bet for sport and fast moving objects ..... plus good lighting.

Checked + 2% if used CC ...
Below are all cash payment only ...

Orient : S$3400.00 with GST
Alan : S$3450 with GST
SL Sq ground floor : S$3440 with GST (can't remember shop name ....)

Might try Jn 3:16 and Cathay in Funan area ...

I think he might be targeting at the non-IS 2.8 for his budget maybe you can share the price if you know :D

I'm using the 70-200 f2.8 myself.
Note that f2.8 will get you a shallow DOF, even if you are taking landscape shots (I'm using it for portraits only). So this would typically not be advantageous.
If you are taking landscape shots, you should be using a tripod. If you are using a tripod, you should not use Image Stabilizer (as per my Canon Camera manual). If your camera is steady, the IS may introduce vibration and spoil your picture.
If you are not using tripod, IS will help if your exposure time is long. See the test reports on which focal length & exposure time combination the IS helps. From a certain speed onwards, pictures will not be blur even without IS.
If you are in low light, IS will also help. For F/4 and IS will be quite similar to F2.8/non-IS. The advantage of F4 would be the greater DOF, unless you just want portraits. Then F/2.8 would still be better.
Just to share my thoughts.

And finally as what others said: weight.

The weight of any of the F/2.8 variants is no joke. If you carry a bigger body, add external flash and grip, it can be quite a workout. You'll start to feel it after holding it a while.

dear all, can this lens (70-200mm f2.8L USM or 70-200mm f4L IS USM) use on 500D?? keen to get 1 of this lens. thank you all.

ok, thank you for your help.

I am thinking of using EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM with a 7D body for capturing F1 race? Any comments on this?

What if i throw in an Extender EF 2xII? Comments please?
