What's your take on the lens as a whole? I'm thinking of getting this lens, but I dunno if I will be satisfied with it in the long run or yearn for the better IQ of the Canon 70-200 2.8.

For half the price of original len, and acceptable performance at f2.8 in my opnion, i chosen sigma instead of nikon vr1/2.
Its best if u can borrow the sigma to try it out, dun read too much into lens review chart/website, scientific data and really life shooting is different .. Most importantly, how deep is ur pocket? I know mine isnt, thats why i go third party ..

Yes, I have a limited budget, that's why looking at either the Canon 70-200 F4 IS or the Sigma. But there aren't any camera rental places that have this lens to rent

Bring ur wallet into the camera shop, test all u want for 1hr, then buy from them.
F4 and f2.8 len produce very diffeent bokeh, i rather take third party f2.8 len, bokeh is more important than the sharpness, vignetting, or focus hunt in really low light situation. At least that my concern.
Btw, i earn my living as a wedding photographer, no one bother what brand i use as ling as i produce the result acceptable to them.

Worth my money... i don't have much choice as i am with Pentax. Hahaha... Canon i dunno. I only got this for $1485 nia, worth loh.

Thanks for your replies guys, I have more or less decided to get a second hand Canon 70-200 2.8 IS Mk I. Still abit wary after hearing so much about poor QC at Sigma, though I hear that the QC is improving. Also, third party lenses depreciate pretty fast in value.

tamron 70-200 vc f2.8 is sharp wide open at center, but sharpness trails off nearer to the sides of the frame. best to look at some real life examples

needless to say you will have no problems at f4. however the vc is sometimes wonky; if you happen to take a shot just as the VC motor starts/turns off the shot will turn out blurred. personal experience.

You should just sell the f4 and get the nikon vr2.

Buy the best you can afford .. feel the pain once and you have no reason to think of upgrade or complaint the len affect your photography skill.
