hi folks,

I m also struggling inbtw sigma 70/200 or nikon 80/200....? any more input or advice?

just to share some thought over here;

actually I had try the N'80/200 on last week outing which borrow from a fren, the only dis-avantage with I experience is the Nikon 80/200 f2.8 has no VR, this has make me more going for sigma APO 70/200 f2.8 EX DG OS HSM.

no doubt, some ppl or expert said VR is not necessery or expert with skill that one shot one kill.

But I believe some those nt expert or hobbist will much more prefer lens with VR. As I mention I have try my fren nikon 80/200 f2.8...I was disappointed with myself after seeing some picture upon I transfer to my pc.

I believe ppl who using tele-zoom lens had experience. althought 80/200 is not that long of diffcult to hold, but the weight is really heavy. anyway if u are using the 80/200 for indoor sport, holding the lens with body and shifting ard to following the subject there is a 30% on blurs photos taken especially 1 or 2 hrs after u have shots. not to mention about events or exppo fair.

I m struggling since last weekend till now, but have not purchase any of the mention. hope folks here cld share more of ur experience.....,tks ...in advance:D

Maybe it is not the lens problem, have you tried to increased the shutter speed?

ermm, I shouuld really say is not the lens problem is my shakey hand or not comfortable use to the weight of the lens.
As I mention that i borrow from a fren. maybe after awhile getting use of it may nt be a issue, however what I m trying to say is the weight of the lens, If u are fresh of the day on shooting the 1st hrs would ok, but time go down and if u are catching out door sport action I believe that will be a few blur shoots. Coz it is a heavy lens shifting is ard chasing of focusig on target.:bsmilie:

monopod is 1 of the solution...
hehehehe

I am not a Nikon user but Sony which have stabiliser built into body. May or may not be as good as those build into lenses. But I do not see so much difference between stabiliser and not using it, though I tried and it really works. But with some practice, you should be able to avoid handshake. One way you can improve a lot is having a monopod. If it becomes inconvenience during events shoot, you can shorten the monopod and instead of standing on floor, you can wear a belt with pouch and stand it in the pouch on your waist, or even tilt your pod to rest on your shoulder like firing a handheld rocket launcher. Without VR, your batteries will last so much longer..... Most people start off with VR on all the time but gradually o switch it off. Unless you are doing handheld birding with 500mm.....save the money for some other gears... just my 2 cent.

i just learn how to use lens without IS and it's challenging..
if u shoot on the event, just try to find "a bar" to put your hands in there...
i'm currently using sigma 50-150 and 30 f1.4 on 450D with BG.

sorry to hijack your thread..but it's an interested topic..how to get sharp pic without IS.
:):):)

bump your ISO, noise reduction in neat image or DPP
and shot in RAW...

im not a pixel peeping anw..
hehehehe

There were still sharp and outstanding pictures when VR/IS wasnt introduced many years ago.

i am considering to get tele zoom lens and comparaing NIKON 80-200 f2.8 AFD and SIGMA 70-200 f2.8 HSM lens since I can get them with about the same price. frankly, my heart tells me to go ahead with the original manufacturer. after reading the first page of this thread, i was pretty sure that i will grab 80-200 f2.8 AFD NIKON lens but after finished reading the whole thread, i am lost and confused. i shouldn't have continued reading this thread. i should stopped at the first page... lol... anyway, please can anyone give final suggestion... NIKON 80-200 (used) or SIGMA 70-200 (new)? appreciate your advises...

Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 is very sharp. if you are not using it for sports, you will love it. With push pull design, 1/80 @200mm is not a big problem. 1/60 or slower would need some extra support....

just fyi from my own lens.

thanks for your fast response, bro. i'll get 80-200 f2.8 NIKON. saw two used units in the market at techno mart. selling at USD 600. hopefully, they are still available.

hi, a sony user here. should i go with sigma, tamron or the sony 70-200g f/2.8. i shoot indoor performance, concerts, sports, dance, which might or might not have good lighting.

I'm on the two touch version. You sure have better technique than me.

the best day allows me to shoot at 1/125s which I tend to avoid. Mostly on 1/200 to play safe.

careful with tamron sony lenses... very disappointed with their service, have to send my lens back to Japan to reset firmware (merely for backfocus calibration)?! for 6-7 weeks?! I bought the lens mainly for an upcoming trip

Well Sigma is fast in AF with their HSM but IQ so so, tamron is good with their IQ but slow in focusing, Sony fast in AF and good in IQ but expensive. It has been rumoured that a new Sony 70-200g II is coming out end of the year or begining next year. So if you really have cash to spare go for Sony or look at 2nd hand if not then Sigma. Don't think tamron can fit into your low light requirement.

The new Sigma 70-200 OS is now the king of the 3rd party telezooms with the best optical performance but at a higher cost.

Until tokina 70-200mm F/4 comes out?? Haha, at least Nikon user gets to enjoy a cheaper F/4 lens other than the rare original 70-210mm F/4.
